Job Summary
The Operator role is responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of their assigned tasks, in full compliance to the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, and without compromise to their own, and colleagues, safety.
Where required to achieve “certified” status, the team member will be taught how to undertake their tasks safely, and to a high quality level, through a rigorous Job Instruction process, and will be expected to attain the relevant certification, as measured by the competence matrix and specified in the site’s BMS/QMS.
The team member will be fully supported by their Team Leader (TL), who will enable their training, coaching and quickly respond to them if they find any off-standard / quality issues.
They will be expected to actively identify safety concerns (Hazard identification), make problems immediately known to their TL (Pull the Andon), and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen).
They will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a ‘Great Place To Work’ through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open dialogue.
Job Responsibilities
Working with groups of machines called cells independently or with others to meet tact time.
Batching and serializing parts
Document work as needed
Monitor, change, and set cutters. Including ensuring cutters get changed at appropriate time and set to correct limits stated on tool sheets
Following various work instructions (i.e. batch card, standard operating procedures, inspection method sheets, operation sheets, tool sheets, etc.)
Maintain a clean area
Inspect parts with tools provided such as micrometers or indicators to operation sheets
Inspect parts in CMM equipment as needed
Deburr parts with deburring wheel and/or file
Checking and adding coolant as needed along with monitoring and adjusting refractor coolant level
Removing metal chips out of machines and swapping/moving barrels of metal chips when full
Verify tool offset or work offset or tool length for peers
Make adjustments to work offsets or tool length/diameter as needed to ensure a quality part
Ensure and complete preventive maintenance procedures assigned to cell equipment (i.e. filters, oil levels in spindle, vactra level for ways, etc.)
Responsible for machining all parts assigned
Ability to run a majority of the product mix
Loading and unloading parts for the machines
Support in improving and keeping a safe environment
Support in providing and completing continuous improvement ideas
Job Qualifications
Required qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Willing to train, mechanically inclined
Basis troubleshooting skills; such as identifying tooling issues
Familiarity with the use of measuring devices
Able to multitask
Preferred Qualifications:
GKN Experience
Ability to read blueprints
Experience within an aerospace manufacturing environment preferred
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking at least 7hrs/day
Ability to carry and lift weight up to 25lbs
Bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling required (At least 2hrs/day)
Use of hands for fine dexterity, light and strong grasping (At least 7hrs/day)
