SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to civilian, AD, and qualified tenant employees who are seen in the OMS clinic. Work involves nursing care and treatment of injuries and illnesses of employees, expanded OSHA standard physicals, and participation in programs of immunization, health screening, and health counseling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance with all applicable rules (federal, state, local, Federal Acquisition Regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, Prime Contract requirements, etc.) for themselves and the company as a whole. Fosters an environment in which they will reportanyviolations or reasonably suspected violation of CNI policy, FAR, and/or CFR and are comfortable discussing the myriad compliance, conflict, FAR, CFR, etc. issues that arise during the performance of a government contract.

Assesses nursing needs to provide safe and efficient nursing care. Independently plan, schedule, and provide comprehensive nursing care without specific instructions, and solves all but the most acute problems on own initiative.

Responds to worker/supervisor questions regarding limitations, services available, form completion, etc.

Participates in Plan-of-Care conferences with OMS providers and RN.

Proficiently triage patients to ensure they receive medical care consistent with occupational health nursing standards. Assesses patient to include physical and psychological needs through a detailed history.

In the absence of a physician/provider, independently determines and implements emergency measures after identifying and interpreting life-threatening conditions.

Prepare patients for physical examinations, tests, and diagnostic procedures. Assists physicians/providers with special examinations and procedures.

Performs PFTs, hearing/vision screening, immunizations, EKGs, and lab procedures, as protocols require.

Skills in setting up, operating, and monitoring sophisticated specialized medical equipment, e.g. AED, audiometric equipment, and PFT, in order to conduct and interpret test results.

Maintains medical records; complete various forms for inclusion in medical records. Reviews all tests for abnormalities prior to assembling health records. Brings noted abnormalities to the attention of reviewing physician and take action as instructed.

Prepares all documentation to meet the 75MDG guidance. PHI that is stored or transmitted electronically must meet the privacy and security standards of the HIPAA. Compliance with Privacy Act and HIPAA requirements will be reviewed.

Respects and maintains the basic rights of patients, demonstrating concern for personal dignity, and human relationships.

Abides by Government regulations concerning the confidentially of patient records, IAW Federal S tatutes, including the Privacy Act of 1974, and Public Law 104-191, HIPAA, and applicable Federal, DoD, Service, and local directives.

Follows and complies with AF, 75 MDG, and section Instruction when providing patient care.

Skills in written communication sufficient to develop staff training plans, recommend strategies for improvement, responds to inquiries concerning OHN issues, and provides input to proposed/current regulations.

Medication administration; orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously, topically.

Follows established OHN protocols to individualize instructions to meet each employee's needs.

Input patient care information in automated medical record systems.

Obtains training on the use of GENESIS, OMS I+I database, ADS, and other systems as deemed necessary by the 75 OMRS/CC.

Complies with 75 MDG infection control and safety procedures, practices, and standards.

Meet all applicable AAACH and HSI standards.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree preferred, and a minimum of two (2) years' relevant experience in professional nursing. A minimum of one (1) year in professional OHN experience or similar experience. Familiar with QI process is required. Comprehension of essential information systems such as, but not limited to, GENESIS OMS I+I, and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGRISTRATION

Certification in Basic Life Support.

Unrestricted license to practice as a RN in Utah or any US Jurisdiction.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Knowledge of health hazards in the workplace and their preventive measures sufficient to establish evaluation methodologies, provide consultative services, and to develop and model programs suitable for specialized and clinical problems.

Knowledge of the potential hazards and the dangers from those potentials hazards the HAFB employees could be exposed to.

Knowledge of OHN principles, practices, and procedures to perform occupational nursing assignments in caring for complex, occupational injury and illness patients requiring special care or referrals.

Knowledge of OHN principles, theories, concepts, and clinical practices as they related to OMS in order to provide advice and direction, and assist in the development of various health programs.

Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use.

Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient's condition including injury/illness progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.

Knowledge of diseases and immunizations sufficient to counsel information/findings for employees.

Knowledge of regulatory guidelines such as OSHA Act of 1970 and FECA in order to ensure content of job-related medical surveillance of workers exposed to regulated hazards as required by law.

Knowledge of information management system sufficient to enter and retrieve occupational health data, review and analyzed health care statistics, and depict trends and tendencies.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, and Internet/Intranet familiarity is required. Knowledge of operations of various microcomputer equipment and be able to input, retrieve, and format documentation.
