General Services Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 250 city government facilities including: City Hall, Public Safety Building (Jail), Norfolk Consolidated Courts Complex, entertainment venues such as the Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theater, the Virginia Zoo; a cruise terminal, all police and fire stations, recreation centers; pools and numerous city office buildings. The Division is staffed with 96 employees responsible for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, elevators, roofing, moves and relocations of city employees, finance, and administrative functions.

The Department of General Services is seeking a qualified Storekeeper II to assist with the daily operations of the storeroom within the Facility Maintenance Division. The Storekeeper II will pull and distribute supplies/materials per work order requirements; assist with inventory counts; obtain price quotes from vendors; and keep warehouse spaces clean and clear of clutter/debris.

Essential Functions

Essential Storeroom Operation Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • identifies and reviews work order supply/material requirements

  • pulls and distributes supplies/materials to fill work order requests

  • obtains price quotes from vendors to ensure best available price

  • orders supplies/materials following City’s procurement guidelines

  • supplies Purchase Order numbers to employees

  • receives supplies/materials from vendors and ensures items and quantities are correct

  • updates inventory records using an inventory management application

  • assists with warehouse inventory counts

  • processes receipt documents

  • assists with coordinating, maintaining and verifying uniform delivery/pickup with the City’s Uniform Vendor

  • provides supply assistance for emergency weather preparation/recovery operations for ice, snow, and storm debris

  • keeps warehouse spaces clean and clear of clutter/debris

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical and office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Required:

  • Four years of experience in parts or supplies operations

Preferred:

  • Experience using an inventory management application

Additional Information & Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License required. A DMV transcript obtained within the previous 30 days will be required if selected for hire.

  • This position is designated as Essential and may be required to report to work during City closures due to inclement weather and other emergencies.

  • Forklift license or the ability to certify on a forklift within six months of hire.

    Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday, 7AM - 3:30PM, 40 hours per week

  • Retirement

    If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

    If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

  • The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
