The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community mental illness, substance use disorders, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and housing and homelessness. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Community Crisis Responder II to join their Clinical & Acute Services division. This position works in a dynamic team environment providing early intervention in mental health crises through a mobile response. Services are delivered in real time to behavioral health crisis victims. This service deescalates behavioral health crises and prevents harm to the individual or others that are voluntarily seeking support; reduces severity of symptoms and develops an immediate plan to maintain safety; and coordinates care and links to appropriate treatment services to meet the individual's needs.
Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $50,624 - $58,217
Essential Functions
Completes in-person assessment to determine functional limitations, eligibility for service, progress and need areas.
Performs crisis intervention to resolve critical situations. Provides practical counseling and education to guide the individual in problem-solving strategies and to develop a supportive therapeutic relationship. This may include encouraging adherence to the treatment plan, substance abuse education, discussing relapse prevention strategies, stress management, etc.
Maintains chart documentation in compliance with agency guidelines and state/federal regulations. Ensures that documentation substantiates billing. Completes an accurate record of direct and consumer-related services. Completes monthly peer chart reviews.
Monitors team responses, effective service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Coordinates linkages and referrals to ongoing services, supports and resources. (examples: housing, peers, chaplaincy), as appropriate and least restrictive level of care including community stabilization.
Maintains clinical data, in accordance with agency requirements, for all individuals served.
Attends assigned meetings, participates on relevant cross-functional work teams to improve organizational performance, and completes required training and ongoing staff development, as assigned, in order to maintain competencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a qualified human services field
Considerable experience (3 or more years) in the behavioral health field working with individuals with childhood or adult behavioral conditions, mental illness and/or addictions. Strongly preferred QMHP-A; QMHP-C; and/or CSAC. Clinical licensed or license eligible staff also eligible.
The ideal candidate with have experience in the human services field working with individuals with serious mental health illness and special needs is preferred.
Additional Information & Requirements
Valid driver’s license.
Certification or certifiable in basic first aid and CPR, depending on area of assignment.
Working Hours: Sunday — Thursday 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.
Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
