Robert Half Cable Technician in Norfolk, Virginia

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Cable Technician in Norfolk, Virginia. This role primarily involves managing and maintaining optic fiber cables and related equipment in the telecommunications industry. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to ensure the optimal performance of our cable networks.

Responsibilities include:

• Overseeing the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon

• Conducting fiber optic testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance

• Installing rack mounts and fiber optic enclosures as per customer design

• Terminating fiber and managing the coring and splicing of OSP coax

• Balancing Amps and certifying Nodes while adhering to industry standards

• Conducting aerial line work and efficiently operating a bucket truck while following all safety and traffic regulations

• Utilizing various fiber equipment like fusion splicer, fiber light identifier, light source power meter, and OTDR

• Reading and interpreting prints and fiber maps for accurate installation and maintenance

• Working from splice logs (splice matrices) and auditing fiber optic systems

• Producing as-builts after the completion of projects

• Applying skills in fiber optics, CAT5, and CAT6 in daily tasks and responsibilities

This role does not require any specific duration commitment and will be based on the ongoing needs of the company and the performance of the hired individual. Requirements • Must have knowledge and experience in working with Fiber Optics

• Proficiency in handling CAT5 cables is required

• Demonstrable experience with CAT6 cabling is necessary

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues

• Familiarity with industry standard safety protocols and procedures

• Excellent communication and customer service skills

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Capable of physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in tight spaces

• Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation

• Willingness to stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements through continuous learning and development
