Niskayuna Central School District Director of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics in Niskayuna, New York

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for an (anticipated) probationary track Director of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

ASSIGNMENT: 11 months per year;

SUMMARY:

The Director of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) supports district leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Niskayuna School District’s science, engineering technology and math programs. The goal is to plan and maintain a sound, well-articulated instructional program by working with pupils, teachers, administrators, and parents.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and evaluate the Science/Engineering Technology/Math program grades K-12.

  • Maintain a program of study: research current practices locally and nationally to develop new courses and programs for students.

  • Provide program directions as needed to meet future needs and provide principals with information regarding new state requirements.

  • Work with teachers to maintain quality and consistency of instruction through advanced lesson planning strategies (ie UbD, formative authentic assessment, Promethean Board) and revise and document curriculum with curriculum mapping.

  • Consult with teachers and pupils in classrooms; to serve as a resource person to teachers and administrators in methods and materials of teaching.

  • Lead Professional Development workshops on new technology, curriculum mapping, and instructional practices.

  • Recruit and select the best qualified staff.

  • Assist teachers in goal setting, to observe staff performance in classroom and non-classroom duties and to evaluate individual staff performance.

  • Assess staff professional growth needs and recommend and implement staff development programs. Plan, secure and develop resources and deliver district professional development in department groupings.

  • To provide orientation to new teaching staff and to arrange necessary mentoring relationships.

  • Articulate the needs of teachers regarding facilities and technology.

  • Supervise assigned support staff.

  • Manage logistics of resources and lesson plans for daily and long-term substitutes to insure uninterrupted delivery of instruction.

  • Work with school counselors and Student Support Services Department to find resolutions to student achievement issues.

  • Participate in local professional organizations and network with other administrators.

  • Examine instructional practices in light of data and best practices.

  • Maintain inventory of textbooks, equipment and supplies including articulating immediate and long-range needs.

  • Participate in the district budget building process.

  • Working with the building principals, other administrators and the school councils gathering the statistical information for annual assessment reports.

  • Utilizing data to establish long and short-term goals.

  • Providing data analysis regarding student achievement and planning for appropriate instruction.

  • Organizing and overseeing administration and scoring of all science and math Regents exams, all field-testing and other testing.

  • Oversee AIS program in math - selection process, curriculum, communication with parents, student assessments and records.

  • Contribute to revision of district AIS plan.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current New York State Certification as School District Leader or School District Administrator

  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching Science, Mathematics or Technology

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a school district administrator
