NIBLEY CITY CORP Nibley City Public Works - Parks Department in NIBLEY, Utah

Position

Nibley City is now accepting applications for a part-time public works parks position. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to managing landscape irrigation systems and general park maintenance (mow, weed, trim); and other general duties, as assigned. Under the close supervision of the Parks Division Manager, performs skilled work pertaining to maintenance and construction of City parks, streetscapes, sites, parks and recreation facilities, City special events, and other green spaces.

Hours

Part-Time; variable hours including some weekends, holidays and occasional special events, or emergencies.

*Job Duties/Functions  *

  • Install and maintain sprinkler systems;
  • Supervise and train seasonal employees.
  • Operate various types of heavy, light, and complex equipment used in the maintenance and construction of city parks, and recreation facilities, i.e., ten-wheel dump trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, mowers, tractors, ATV's, etc.
  • May perform any of the following duties: perform landscape construction and maintenance including soil preparation, mowing, aerating, and planting of trees, shrubs, sod, and lawn seed; construct and repair parks and recreation facilities including restrooms, playground equipment, fences, etc.
  • Perform set-up and take-down of special events.
  • Prepare sports fields for play: grade, paint lines and water field.
  • Maintain parks equipment in proper working order
  • Perform snow removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

*Education and Experience  *

  • High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of increasingly responsible park maintenance or similar experience.  

*Special Requirements  *

  • Possession of a valid Class B driver's license on the date of application, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hiring.  

*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  *

Demonstrated knowledge of, skill in, and ability to:  

  • Proficient in installing and repairing a variety of landscape irrigation systems.
  • Landscape construction techniques.
  • Materials, methods, practices and equipment used in municipal park facilities construction, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in park grounds maintenance projects.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work.
  • Operate and maintain municipal park grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Operations, services and activities of a municipal park grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair program.
  • Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff.  

*Physical/Environmental Demands *

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.
  • Employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed primarily in an outdoor setting, in a variety of weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment varies from moderately quiet to extremely loud.
