Position Description

Job Summary:

The Banquet Captain is responsible for directing banquet servers in the proper set-up and execution of banquet and special events. The Banquet Captain also acts as a banquet server, providing the guest with an enjoyable, expertly served dining and beverage experience that exceeds their expectations. The position is required to perform the following duties: welcome greeter, cocktail server, hors d’oeuvre passer, reception bus person, buffet runner, front server, back server, exit usher. In addition to the abovementioned duties, the Banquet Captain takes close direction from the Banquet Manager and Shift Managers to assist in a supervisory role on the floor for set up, service and breakdown of events. The Banquet Captain may be required to work in other capacities within other departments. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Report to work on time, well-groomed in approved attire with badge on the upper left side of the uniform.

Review and have a thorough understanding of all function sheets to coordinate scheduled events.

Assist with training of banquet staff. Assist with floor plans for banquet events. Provide banquet staff with a copy of each function sheet to enable them to gain a thorough understanding of the client’s expectations prior to the event.

Inspect each function room prior to scheduled event to check whether the room setup, menu and schedule of events conform to the function sheet.

Greet client prior to the onset of the function and be present throughout its duration to assist in areas where needed. Prior to function starting, review with the Contact the details of event, such as timeline, guest count and menu. Review and update with Chef on duty. Periodically check with client to ensure satisfaction with the function and to respond to any additional request.

Continually direct and assist banquet staff during the entire event to ensure all details are carried out according to the client’s specifications and that service standards are met.

In the event of the absence of the manager, prepare and present accurate function bill to the client at the completion of the event and collect payment.

Maintain weekly inventory requisitions for all product and liquor.

Complete monthly upkeep, maintenance and inventory of service equipment and work areas.

Supervise clean up and breakdown of function after its completion, account for all equipment and supplies, and ensure their return to storage area.

Assist Beverage department with functions held in the Feature Bar on the casino floor, as needed.

Maintain a current understanding of all policy and guidelines regarding information security including the Seneca Gaming Corporation Acceptable Use Policy. Understand and comply with all information security policies and procedures at all times.

Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicate in a pleasant, friendly and professional manner at all times. Maintain a professional work environment with supervisors, managers and staff.

Meet the attendance guidelines of the job and adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies.

Must complete all required SGC Training programs within nine (9) months from commencement of employment.

Attend all necessary meetings.

Position Requirements

Each position has varying minimum qualifications. In the absence of fully qualified candidates, some requirements may be waived.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education/Experience:

Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum three (3) years’ experience in banquets.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Ability to communicate in English through speaking and writing.

Must be able to work in a fast pace, busy and noisy environment.

Excellent guest relation skills and the ability to be attentive and to anticipate all guest needs are necessary.

Proficient computer skills preferred.

Fine dining experience preferred.

Language Skills and Reasoning Ability:

Must possess excellent communication skills.

Ability to write routine correspondence and to speak effectively and interact well with the customers and employees.

Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

Must be able to stand, walk and move through all areas of the Casino for a lengthy period of time – up to nine (9) hours.

Must be able to exert well-paced mobility to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.

Must have the ability to work indoors/outdoors as well as in extreme temperatures.

Must maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast paced environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community in all situations.

Other:

Must be able to be approved for and maintain a valid Seneca Nation Key license.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

Work nights, mornings, weekends and holidays as required.
