This position will provide support to all Safety, Health and Environmental activities and programs for the Distribution Center operations in Newville, PA. This position will provide support to the Leadership Team in achieving their goal to eliminate work related injuries. Support includes evaluation of the worksite, training in safety and OSHA related matters, proactive analysis of loss experience and recommendation regarding worksite safety and environmental practices.

Position Detail – Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements company safety and health programs which ensure the safety of the operations, which are compliant with OSHA and other local, state, and federal rules and regulations

  • Support the facility in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local government regulations as related to the facility’s environmental requirements

  • Participate in the investigation, documentation and analysis of incidents and injuries and maintains a follow-up system to ensure corrective action is promptly implemented

  • Responsible for serving as a technical resource to support associates, at all levels, on safety-related issues

  • Analyzes and assesses safety trend data to drive safety resource allocation, and ergonomic initiatives to reduce injuries.

  • Maintain a good relationship with Workers’ Compensation TPA’s and manages claims, including return to work practices

  • Facilitates, develops and maintains existing safety programs in alignment with the Newell SEAL program

  • Maintains OSHA log, written safety plans, training records and other reporting requirements including environmental compliance metrics

  • Prepare required reports and maintain necessary records / documentation related toenvironmental programs for the facility (e.g. EPCRA Tier II, stormwater)

  • Responsible for inspecting the facility to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated; participates in environmental incident investigations

  • Conducts / participates in department meetings and promotes an open line of communication with other team members

  • Complete special assignments and projects on an as needed basis

  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, reach, and grasp for varying periods of time during working hours.

  • Bachelor’s degree in EH&S, Safety Engineering, Human Resources, or other relevant technical fields required

  • 3-5 years experience related to safety and/or occupational health or environmental, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal safety processes preferred

  • Knowledgeable in Workers’ Compensation case management including transition to work programs

  • Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, under the guidance of the Director of Operations within the stated objectives and guidelines of the company
