Confidential Employer Executive Director in Newville, Pennsylvania

The Big Spring Senior Center is seeking an Executive Director to fill a 37.5-hour weekly position with limited benefits.  Qualified individual must have a high school diploma, a good command of English grammar, knowledge of Word, Excel and Publisher, ability to keep meticulous records and be familiar with the Big Spring community.  Must have the ability to work well with people, clients and staff, and to be able to tolerate interruptions yet meet deadlines.  Main duties are to supervise Center Assistant and volunteers, attend meetings as necessary, maintain certifications, promote Center, fundraising, write grant applications and budget, plan and oversee creative programming. This job can be different day to day depending on needs of people and programming. Responsible to the Big Spring Senior Center Board of Directors (BOD) and the Cumberland County Aging and Community Services (OOA) Expectations:

  1. Supervise staff, volunteers, and Center members.  Deal with any issues appropriately and in a timely manner in compliance with established policies.
  2. Coordinate staff so there is adequate coverage during the Center hours.
  3. Oversee and understand Co-Pilot and the recording of the Prime Time activities, attendance, and Congregate Meal Program.  Computer literacy necessary.
  4. Apply for and coordinate grants as needed to pay for gaps in budget.
  5. Work with the OOA and assure compliance with their contract.
  6. Work with Cumberland Senior Housing Associates and assure compliance with the lease.
  7. Follow operating procedures of the Center.
  8. Maintain a safe environment for all Center participants, volunteers, and staff.  Insure that at least one staff member or receptionist is present during operating hours.
  9. Insure that the service of congregate meals to members in the Center is done in compliance with ServSafe training.
  10. Plan activities, programs, and services.  Monitor their quality.  Market with bimonthly newsletter, website and Facebook.
  11. Monitor the Center's annual budget and carefully control expenses in coordination with the Board Treasurer.  Accurately report and maintain records of all income and expenses which are handled in the Center.
  12. Implement fundraisers in conjunction with other staff and the Advisory Council.
  13. Be available for training, BOD meetings, Advisory Council meetings, and other necessary meetings pertaining to the Center.
  14. Maintain First Aid, CPR, AED, and ServSafe Certification.
  15. Develop and maintain community involvement with the Center in collaboration with Board members.
  16. Promote the Center to the community in order to increase participation and/or membership.
  17. Interact with and relate to members.
  18. Recruit and work with volunteers.
  19. Provide referral services to members and their families when necessary.
  20. Advertise the meetings to the BOD and Advisory Council.  Prepare their necessary reports.
  21. Maintain regular communication with the local media.
  22. Order supplies and operational material as needed.
  23. Fill in when any staff is absent and be able to perform any of their job descriptions as needed.
  24. Arrange for custodial service.
  25. Coordinate a back-up plan with the Board in the event all employees are absent.
  26. Approve all staff requests for time off.
  27. Notify the Board of planned time off.
  28. Perform other duties as needed.

The executive Director will generally work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.---4 p.m. with the understanding of the need to be flexible.
