Job Description

HII Mission Technologies Newport News Direct Support is seeking candidates to join our E25 Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) Test Engineering Team. We are actively seeking candidates with prior US Navy Submarine experience in the area of Interior Communication/Navigation System experience.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The VCS Interior Communications System Technician 3 position requires in-depth technical knowledge, a solid grasp of the requirements for Commercial-Off-The-Shelf electronics equipment. The candidate will be primarily responsible for the testing, maintenance and operation of the Announcing Systems to include all support equipment Console Key-switch Integrated Terminal Equipment (KITE), Dial Telephones, Secure Telephone Equipment (STE), Portable Ships Control Station (PSCS) equipment, Tactical Communications and Audio Subsystem (TCAS), Loudspeakers, Microphone Stations, handsets, headsets Wire free Communications (WIFCOM) radios, WIFCOM base stations, Man on the Move Communications (MOMCOM) handset and base Stations and alarms. The candidate will groom, troubleshoot and test proper operation of the interfacing systems (WIFCOM, MOMCOM, etc.) and ensures that all systems function properly as designed and in accordance with the required test procedures. The candidate will responsible for the successful completion of the ICS System and C5I system (96 Hour) Operability testing. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers including SUPSHIP, SPAWARS Atlantic, CWITT & PMS450E, and coordinate with many different organizations to safely and successfully accomplish testing on Virginia Class submarines. The candidate must be able to work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions. Operate related equipment; conducts tests and report data in prescribed format(s). Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions. Exclude technicians working in Production or Quality Assurance. The candidate must be able and capable to support sea trials across VCS, if and when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience, or HS + 5 years related (DoD/USN) experience.

  • Prior US Navy Submarine experience in the areas of Communication and/or Navigation Systems

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a SECRET Security Clearance

Preferred Requirements

  • Enlisted Submarine Warfare Qualification

  • Prior experience on Virginia Class Submarines

  • Prior shipyard Test Engineering experience

Physical Requirements

Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. A waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
