Aerotek MIG Welder (23/hr.) in Newport News, Virginia

Job Title: Welder and Fabricator

Job Description

As a Welder and Fabricator, you will be responsible for fitting and welding sheet metal parts accurately according to job specifications, which are gathered from work orders, customer drawings, sample parts, and/or completed assemblies. You will handle materials ranging from .060'' thick to 1/4'' thick, involving galvanized and cold rolled steel of 12-22 gauge. Your duties will include welding in flat, vertical, or overhead positions, using clamps for accurate fitting, cutting materials, and examining workpieces for defects to ensure they meet specifications. You will use various tools like calipers, straightedges, and templates for measurement and conformance checks. Materials to be welded include steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other alloys through different welding techniques.

Hard Skills

  • Experience with light gauge material

  • Ability to read basic blueprints and understand welding symbols

  • Proficiency in MIG welding

  • Skill in using calipers, straightedges, templates for measurement

Soft Skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work in high-temperature conditions

  • Physical stamina for heavy lifting up to 100lbs

Job Type

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 6 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Newport News, Virginia.

Work Environment

The work environment is clean and highly organized, typical for a sheet metal shop. The standard work hours are from 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of 10-20 hours of overtime, including early mornings or weekend mornings.
