Maritime Operations within Mission Technologies - Nuclear and Environmental Services, is looking for aMechanical Engineer 3to join the team in Newport News, VA.

Mechanical Engineers in the Maritime Operations group play a crucial role in supporting various functional areas at Newport News Shipyard. This position will involve engineering and technical support related to the construction, testing and operations of propulsion and reactor plant components.

What You Will Do

This position will be embedded into a direct support role in the Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Controls Engineering group. This group is responsible for providing engineering, monitoring, training, radiation health and technical services, and emergency planning support to the lead Newport News Shipbuilding Radiological Control Program to service Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. Radiological Controls Engineering offers a challenging, high paced, team environment with opportunity to excel and endless possibilities for professional growth.

Radiological Controls Engineering consists of three main group: Reactor Servicing; Overhaul Maintenance for Aircraft Carriers; and Fleet Support, Facilities, and Special Emphasis Projects. Come join our group of diverse and talented experts!

What You Must Have

• Candidate is required to have either:
  • Five (5) years at level experience with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
  • Or three (3) years at level experience with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Or zero (0) years at level experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering
• Candidate must have successfully completed an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree or related field from an ABET accredited program.
• Candidate must have experience utilizing industry-current Engineering design and analytical or modeling software.
• Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

Bonus Points For ...

• US Navy nuclear propulsion plant experience.

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperatur variances.
