Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of production equipment through regular oiling, greasing, troubleshooting, and repairs. You will inspect and maintain production equipment, operate various manual tools, and handle building and grounds maintenance tasks such as plumbing, electrical wiring, and painting. Additionally, you will test machinery, communicate progress and issues to supervisors, and coordinate with external technicians for repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Oil and grease production equipment to keep it functioning optimally.

  • Troubleshoot and repair production equipment malfunctions reported by line supervisors.

  • Inspect and maintain all production equipment as necessary and as scheduled.

  • Operate drills, saws, grinders, welding apparatus, presses, and a variety of manual tools to repair and maintain production equipment.

  • Monitor and maintain building and grounds functions such as plumbing, general electrical wiring, and painting.

  • Test operate production machinery before and after repairs are made, including mixers, saws, conveyors, box makers, sealers, fryers, freezers, Raytheon machines, forklifts, separators, and baggers.

  • Communicate progress of repair work, potential problems, and general functioning to line supervisors and incoming maintenance shifts.

  • Write up and submit requests for parts as necessary to facilitate repairs and maintenance.

  • Record and maintain all relevant maintenance work completed and keep a logbook of daily activities.

  • Coordinate maintenance efforts with outside machinery technicians to facilitate expedient and proper repair.

  • Make equipment adjustments as requested by line supervisors to assist machine operators with accurate functioning of precision production equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial maintenance, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, and PLCs.

  • Experience with 480V and 240V electrical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing blueprints.

  • Skilled in changeovers and conveyor maintenance.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

Positions are available for first shift (5am - 2pm, Monday-Friday), second shift (1:30pm - 10pm, Monday-Friday), and third shift (10pm - 7am, Monday-Friday). Candidates should be open to any shift, although most likely will not change shifts. The work environment exposes employees to loud noise, food-grade dust and odors, moving and vibrating machinery, heavy equipment, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, and electricity. Employees may also be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke, and odors. Allergens found inside the plant include fish, shellfish, nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, milk, and coconut.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
