Position Overview
The Dispatcher is critical in ensuring community and public safety by efficiently managing emergency and non-emergency service requests for Courtesy Ambulance. This position operates 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role requires exceptional accuracy, concentration, attention to detail, and multitasking while utilizing advanced computer technology. Dispatchers must exercise independent judgment in receiving and transmitting emergency medical and other critical information via radio, telephone, and computer systems.
Essential Responsibilities
Process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for Courtesy Ambulance services.
Dispatch appropriate resources for ambulance, wheelchair, and other emergency/non-emergency services
Utilize a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to create and maintain electronic records and activity logs.
Monitor calls, access, and input information using various computer systems.
Operate an 800 MHz region-wide radio system.
Maintain proficiency with evolving technology and equipment.
Adhere to assigned work schedules, including various shifts covering 24/7/365 operations.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Dispatching experience within the last seven years (highly preferred)
Typing speed of at least 40 WPM
Ability to remain calm under pressure and in high-stress situations
Reliable transportation
Reporting Structure
Reports to the operations director, who has significant autonomy in decision-making during shift work. Performance is continuously evaluated through observations, Quality Assurance reviews, and audio recordings.

The long workweek in a 24/7 dispatch center environment

Proficient use of computers, telephones, radios, and other relevant equipment
