Posting Summary
Rutgers is seeking a Student Assistant for the Urban-Global Public Health Department within the School of Public Health, located in Newark, NJ. The Community Health Justice Lab (CHJL) at the School of Public Health is seeking a Student Assistant for the Mental Health First Aid Project with strong quantitative skills to develop and oversee data infrastructure, data management, and perform analyses to facilitate the accomplishment of applicable research objectives. The Assistant will also provide a range of research and programmatic activities in support of the CHJL.Duties include:
  • Assists the PI with the development of new and existing programs and research studies.
  • Assists the PI in overseeing data management systems for primary data collection; works with faculty to setup, create, and integrate data collection projects and surveys into workflow of data management.
  • Works with PI to develop, update, and perform data quality control (QC) procedures to ensure data integrity; works with faculty to address issues impacting data quality including but not limited to system issues, data entry errors, and data collection errors.
  • Prepares datasets and provide supporting documentation for statistical analysis.
  • Assists the PI with development of appropriate statistical models to analyze research data, while managing and maintaining datasets.
  • Interacts with investigators to analyze study data for technical reports, journal articles, and conference presentations. This may include writing and contributing to publications

Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be a current Rutgers student.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Prior research experience in public health
  • Prior data analysis experience (in design and primary research data collection)
  • In-depth knowledge of database types; research methodologies; hypothesis testing, and primary data capture, manipulation, and visualization
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Proficient use of computers and data analysis software (SPSS, R or Stata)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
