Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Senior Business Manager for the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN). The Senior Business Manager is a member of the Dean's Office team managing a $130 million budget and is responsible for financial planning, budget forecasting, and data management. In addition, the position provides oversight, direction, and feedback to a group of business managers overseeing the financial transactions of SASN's departments, programs, centers, and administrative units. The Senior Business manager provides strategic advice to leadership in the Dean's Office and throughout SASN and works collaboratively with other team members, faculty, staff, and a variety of individuals throughout Rutgers University.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Developing budget proposals and complex projections of revenue and expenses
  • Reviewing data, preparing financial reports, and analyzing financial implications on a wide variety of academic and operational decisions
  • Managing the working budget, forecasting, and monthly closing processes
  • Overseeing the financial transactions of the school, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory guidelines
  • Recommending, and communicating processes and practices to improve operational efficiencies

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices
  • Also requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

  • Ability to establish and maintain continually evolving working relationships with a variety of individuals, coordinating multiple activities
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports, knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles
  • Ability to take initiative and independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved
  • Proficiency to analyze data, information, and objectives; identify patterns, concerns, issues, problems, needs, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications; and make sound decisions or recommendations
  • Ability to anticipate problems and to address them proactively
  • Must be able to multitask and manage several complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused, team environment

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience strongly desired
Equipment Utilized
  • Regularly uses all software, systems, and equipment necessary to provide effective and efficient support for budget, financial, and grant administration, including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, RAPSS, ECRT, and knows or will learn any and all systems the University uses for budget, accounting, procurement, proposal submission, grants administration, and the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of position now and in the future.
