Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for NJMS-Pharmacology. The research of the Zhang lab is aimed to identify functional neural circuits in the regulation of motivated behaviors especially social and feeding. To do this, the laboratory uses a combination of novel transgenic mouse lines, optogenetics, chemogenetics, brain slice patch-clamp recording, in vivo fiber photometry and single-cell miniscope imaging, molecular techniques, and mouse models of brain disorders. Under direction of the Principal Investigator, the individual will be responsible for planning and executing experiments independently. The individual will also help train graduate students and techniciansAmong the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs various research and technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of a laboratory; may conduct independently or as assigned specialized research for a particular project.
  • Assists in the conducting of continuous program of research and development regarding new procedures and instrumentation functions of the laboratory.
  • Performs highly skilled procedures including stereotactic surgery for brain injection and implantation, in vivo imaging (fiber photometry and miniscope) of freely moving mice, mouse perfusion and slice preparation, immunocytochemistry, RNAscope assay, and behavioral tests.
  • Records and analyzes data for studies, maintain accurate records of individual experimentation and research.
  • Contributes to writing manuscripts and review articles that directly results from his/her research. Writes and submits abstracts for scientific meetings.
  • Assists in training and mentoring graduate students and technicians.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Candidates should hold a recent Ph.D. or an M.D with research experience in neuroscience or a relevant science.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A record of excellence and productivity in research, and the ability to lead work independently are required.
  • Experience in stereotactic brain surgery of mice for virus injection and canula implantation, regular behavioral tests, slice patch-clamp recording, and in vivo fiber photometry is preferred.
  • Experience in in vivo imaging using miniscope or Mini2P is desired.
  • The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
