The Department of Chemistry offers undergraduate major and minor programs in chemistry along with graduate training (M.S. and Ph.D.) in a modern facility with state-of-the-art instrumentation.

Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Head Stock Clerk. Reporting to the Supervisor of Laboratory Instructional Support in the Department of Chemistry, this Head Stock Clerk operates a large stockroom that supports research operations and teaching laboratories.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Operating aspects of a large stockroom and counter operation that supports teaching laboratories and research operations.
  • Oversees the receiving storing, and issuing of equipment, materials, and supplies in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Dispenses, distributes, packs, and ships materials, supplies and equipment to multiple locations.
  • Ensuring safe laboratory practices in the teaching laboratories.
  • Ensuring proper storage, collection, and reporting of chemicals and hazardous waste in the stockroom and teaching laboratories, following Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety (REHS) and New Jersey Right-to-Know (NJRTK) policies, processes, and schedules.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent plus three years of varied experience in maintaining an inventory and the ability to group lead.
  • Must have mathematical skills and knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, ordering, expediting, storeroom management, and hazardous and general material safety practices.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively. Must have effective client service skills.
  • May require demonstrated knowledge of inventory maintained in a specified scientific area.
  • May require a valid driver's license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers an Associates degree in the natural sciences with basic courses in Chemistry or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory maintained in a specified scientific area
Equipment Utilized
  • Position regularly uses all software, systems, supplies, and equipment necessary to provide effective and efficient management of laboratories and stockroom, and the MS Office suite, Apple products, Cornerstone, HCM, and any and all systems the University uses for budget, procurement, safety, inventory, reporting, waste management, training, Protection of Minors, accident reporting, payroll, facilities and space, and knows or will learn all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
