Job Overview:

The Bariatric Data Reviewer/Administrative Coordinator/Insurance Specialist is primarily responsible for the collection and submission of reliable clinical data to the American College of Surgeon (ACS) Bariatric Data Registry. Works closely with members of the Bariatric and General Surgery Divisions to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvements. Adheres to and promotes Center s Service Excellence Standards. As an administrative coordinator, she/he will provide support to service employees, supervise the staff, and help manage the service s budget. She/he will act as a link connecting departments, vendors, and staff members. They help to organize, supervise, and facilitate the work among employees, as well as provide specialized support to the workers. In most cases, they are also in charge evaluating current employees, and setting work assignments. They are also responsible for performing clerical duties, maintaining databases, creating reports, writing letters, facilitate management, maintaining the office, securing maintenance, and other general activities. They are also involved in the financial management of their service, including monitoring how money is spent, controlling costs, approving expenses, and conducting financial reports. As an Insurance specialist she/he is in charge of vverifying insurance coverage and obtains necessary authorization for medical/surgical/radiology procedures

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Knowledge of database reporting and other statistical computer software programs for compiling outcomes.

A college degree or at least one year of experience with data management is preferred.

  • Familiar with Excel Workbook

  • Detailed and goal-oriented

  • Demonstrated organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies one hundred percent (100%) of Bariatric patients for inclusion in the data registry.

  • Collects pre-operative, intra-operative, 30-day post-operative and long term (six months and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through effective utilization of the hospital medical records systems and through coordinated effort with individual Surgery Office staff and follows departmental protocol to schedule patients who missed appt, Attends weekly Mortality & Morbidity Conferences to ensure reliable data collection of post-operative occurrences.

  • Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.

  • Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the Program. Ensures accurate and timely entry of data into the Program s database. Establishes effective working relationships with members of the Hospital community (staff in surgery, medicine, nursing, medical records, and information systems) Serves as educational resources on the Bariatric Data Registry Platform for internal and external audiences.

  • Utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis. Reviews and analyzes the data provided by MBSCR on a monthly basis and prepares written report for the Medical Director. Successfully completes the MBSCR online Training program

  • Supervise support clerical staff. Review, track and prepare budgets; maintain records and databases. Coordinate space and office organization; purchase and manage supplies and equipment. Coordinate office and/or departmental operations. Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorization for medical/surgical/radiology procedures
