Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Cytogenetics Consultant - Cytogenetics for the department of Pathology within the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. The Cytogenetics Consultant will conduct specialized clinical cytogenetic testing, including but not limited to chromosome karyotyping and Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH). The consultant will be responsible for analyzing chromosome and FISH data and preparing the Cytogenetics test reports.
This is a part-time position that will work a maximum of 20 hours per week.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Collaborates with institutional leadership, physician partners, and nursing colleagues to ensure high quality care for patients in all settings.
  • Under supervision of the Laboratory Director of the CAP/CLIA certified Cytogenetics Laboratory, organize data, prepare analysis and report templates for interpretation of FISH and chromosome analysis for Cytogenetics.
  • Identifies routine cytogenetic abnormalities.
  • Reviews all test requests thoroughly for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems.
  • Completes diagnostic reports while maintaining quality of work within established periods of time.
  • Assists to upload final reports to LIS systems.
  • Interacts closely with clinical staff and be an active participant in the educational programs of the Department including teaching medical students and residents and engage in productive research activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Science plus ten (10) year of cytogenetics experience.
  • At least five (5) years of experience working with large hospital and/or major academic medical center.
  • Mut have ASCP certification for cytogenetics
