Position Summary:

The AV Systems Technician will provide first-level user support for AV systems in classrooms, meeting, and event spaces, as well as operational support for events and video productions. Additionally, this position will participate in ongoing maintenance of AV equipment and systems used in support of these functions.

Due to the nature of events held at NJIT, this position will require a flexible schedule, which may include nights and weekends.

Essential Functions:

First-Level Support & Training:

  • Provide prompt and effective technical support for AV systems in classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to audio, video, projection, control systems, and other AV systems and equipment.

  • Provide training and guidance on the operation of AV systems, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.

Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance and testing of AV equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Event Support:

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV systems during events, conferences, and video productions, including cameras, switchers, teleprompters, and mixers.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of AV equipment inventory, service requests, and technical documentation.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field

  • Proven experience in supporting AV systems, preferably in an educational or corporate environment.

  • Strong knowledge of audiovisual equipment, including projectors, displays, sound systems, control systems, video conferencing tools, and recording equipment.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting common AV-related issues and resolving technical problems.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard AV protocols (HDMI, VGA, SDI, etc.) and signal distribution systems.

  • Ability to operate video production equipment, including cameras, switchers, mixers, and editing software.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with users of varying technical knowledge.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
