Position Summary:

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in social psychology to support its growing program in the psychological and behavioral sciences. Diverse approaches to psychological theories, principles, and research methods relevant to understanding human behavior among groups, individuals, and organizations are welcome, including, but not limited to: social development; attitudes, bias and social cognition; social psychology of race and gender; industrial and organizational/workplace psychology; personality psychology; social processes and motivations; and social neuroscience. Applications from individuals with interdisciplinary orientations and/or expertise that could enhance the AI-driven research profile of the psychology program are encouraged.

HSS is an interdisciplinary community of innovative researchers and educators working across disciplines including literature, communication and media, sociology, and psychology; the dynamic and rapidly-growing program in psychology supports a Bachelor's in Cyberpsychology and a Minor in Psychology.

The anticipated start date is August 2025.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach introductory and advanced courses in psychology,

  • Engage in service to the program, department and university,

  • Have a synergistic impact on existing research programs,

  • Develop an externally-funded research program.

  • The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary as well as start-up research funding.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology, social and behavioral sciences, or a closely related discipline. Doctoral students who are on schedule to receive their degree by August 2025 are encouraged to apply. At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
