Citigroup Trading Book (TB) Risk Data Transformation Lead in New York, New York

Risk Data and Technology (RD&T) is part of Citi’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Group within Independent Risk Management and is responsible for developing and implementing data and technology solutions to deliver on our regulatory commitments, transforming data, processes, and technology to achieve a generational shift in Risk Management practices.

Trading Book Data Transformation and Market Risk (TBT&MR) Data & Tech. group within RD&T is responsible for Trading Book Transformation (Counterparty Credit Risk and Price Risk), and Market Risk Operations and Technology Solutions. The TBT&MR group is accountable for delivering Regulatory Business Critical Milestones, delivering fit for purpose data for risk measurement and reporting, and automating Risk Management.

The Trading Book (TB) Transformation Lead is primarily responsible for driving enterprise-wide adoption of a data governance discipline and culture that values information to support IRM’s strategies and is focused on improving data quality to fuel opportunity, innovation, and business value. This role is responsible for leading and managing Independent Risk’s data strategy and ensuring compliance with enterprise-wide Data Governance Policy, standards, and procedures including ensuring effective and timely execution of all programs under the Consent Orders that Risk Management is responsible for. This includes leading initiatives such as defining Data Requirements to demonstrate risk data operations are happening in a well-controlled environment, formalizing data lineage and DQ rules in Enterprise-wide tools, implement data governance for critical data elements used in risk measurements and reporting, and demonstrate risk reduction through defining and creating outcome-based metrics. The role manages multiple senior professionals through other senior managers assuring change is met on time. The job requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of the strategic direction of Data within the firm, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise. Excellent communication skills required to influence a wide range of audiences.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate proven ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders across Markets, Independent Risk, Compliance, Finance, Operations & Technology. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a cross-functional environment without close supervision and with colleagues who may not be in the same geographic location. The role requires strong analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills that rely on influence and building effective partnerships to execute our business plans and controls in a systematic, measurable, and effective way.

Responsibilities:

The Trading Book (TB) Transformation Lead will be responsible for

  • Leading and managing Independent Risk’s data strategy for Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) and Price Risk for ensuring compliance with enterprise-wide Data Governance Policy, standards, and procedures.

  • Partner with Data Analytics, Reporting and Technology (DART) in IRM to document process flows, critical data elements, identification, and remediation of data gaps and demonstrate risk reduction through defining and creating outcome-based metrics for BCBS239 and other key Management/ Regulatory reports.

  • Partner with DART on the development and implementation of the core infrastructure to improve reporting capabilities.

  • Initiative-taking engagement with cross-functional stakeholders from Trade Capture to Risk Reporting to deliver improvements and simplification in end-to-end process.

  • Provide thought leadership and requirements for analytics using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning tools that enhances further transparency to Risk reporting.

  • Drive the diagnostics and remediation activities of a broad range of IRM’s DQ Operations and Controls that encompass Data governance, data and non-data controls, processes, system implementation and Risk reporting.

  • Develop senior management-ready materials for RMEC (Risk Management Executive Committee) and Regulatory Exams and review on Regulatory Business Critical Milestones delivery.

  • Drive change and influence risk and regulatory outcomes. Provide appropriately conservative solutions in partnership with Business, Risk, and Finance teams.

  • Develop a strong working relationship with Finance, Front Office, Treasury, Technology, Audit, Independent risk, and other counterparts across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of broad experience in transformation roles including in managing large complex cross-company transformation programs, including Finance, Risk and Controls, Regulatory or Consulting roles, in financial services.

  • Subject matter expertise in Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) and Market Risk.

  • Strong business knowledge of Risk Management and/or Regulatory Reporting.

  • Specific subject matter expertise regarding transformation and program management disciplines and a strong business understanding of the products and services Citi offers.

  • Experience in banking regulation and supervisory expectations for large financial institutions

  • Strong people skills, with evidence of working in collaboration across large organizations, including an initiative-taking and 'no surprises' approach in communicating issues/requests.

  • Experienced in driving change in a multi-country or global scope, ability to manage cultural differences and champion diversity.

  • Full understanding of the lifecycle of CCR and Market Risk processes. Knowledge of Citi Systems and Processes is not mandatory but preferred.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory capital best practices and controls, and interdependencies between Trading Book and Banking Book exposures across different risk stripes

  • Ability to define, articulate and re-engineer complex processes and procedures, with appropriate controls, and think both strategically and tactically while driving meticulous execution.

  • Exceptional oral communication and writing skills, with ability to synthesize complex concepts, and translate into "user-friendly" language for multiple audiences, including senior management, multiple internal constituents, and regulators.

  • Experience in managing risks holistically, covering areas such as systems, data, models, regulatory requirements, governance, and analytics.

  • Strong analytical skills, “attention to detail,” willingness to "roll up sleeves" and produce a polished, high quality, accurate product; tireless work ethic with ability to work well under pressure.

  • Solid Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to develop advanced knowledge of MS Excel and Access (or other database front-end query applications).

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Master’s Degree preferred. Exceptional candidates who do not meet these criteria may be considered for the role provided they have the necessary skills and experience, managerial experience.
