City of New York Stationary Engineer in New York, New York

Job Description

  • Under supervision, operate, maintain, repair, test and adjust steam power plant, heating, air conditioning, chiller plant, fire protection systems, emergency power systems, electro-mechanical building equipment and related auxiliary systems in public buildings.

  • Operate, maintain, repair and adjust boilers, furnaces, steam reducing stations, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, motors, water treatment systems, cooling towers, condensers, evaporators, emergency generators and associated equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and lighting in public buildings.

  • Make periodic inspections of equipment and repairs to such equipment.

  • Operate control consoles and building management systems in control rooms.

  • Prepare requisitions for materials and spare parts.

  • Instruct and train subordinates and other personnel.

  • Take responsible charge of a watch and while so engaged supervise and direct subordinate personnel. Read and log meters, gauges and other recording devices.

  • Perform preventative maintenance.

  • Inspect low-pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure of New York City Department of Buildings.

  • Prepare and maintain records; write technical and informational reports regarding HVAC maintenance and repair.

Certain positions require that candidates possess, within 90 days from the day of appointment, a valid certificate of fitness for Standpipe, Automatic Sprinkler and/or Air Compressor issued by the New York City Fire Department.

Certain positions require that candidates possess, on date of appointment, a valid Certificate of Equivalent Instruction and/or a Restricted Asbestos Investigator Certificate issued by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

Certain positions require that candidates possess, on the date of appointment, a Certificate for Hazardous Materials, issued by an OSHA-approved program.

A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have a moving violation, license suspension or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

A valid Refrigerating System Operating Engineer Certificate, issued by the New York City Fire Department.

A valid Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certificate (EPA 608 Certificate) issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Qualifications

A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
