The Senior Data Visualization Designer will collaborate with other members of the Research Graphics team as well as financial writers and analysts from across the rating agency to produce static and interactive graphics on key topics affecting financial markets such as sustainable finance, commercial real estate, private credit, and more.Moody's Research Graphics is a global, collaborative team of professionals enthusiastic about enhancing the quality of our research through compelling digital graphics.The Senior Data Visualization Designer will: Collaborate with financial analysts and writers to turn complex and varied data sets into visual narratives for both static and interactive formats Create a portfolio of high-impact data visualizations that align with our brand guidelines as well as industry standards Maintain a balance of long- and short-term projects with a mix of graphics-rich articles and ambitious interactive content Independently research and understand new data sets on a variety of topics relevant to financial markets (e.g., macroeconomic trends, digital finance, cyber risk) Provide feedback on visual content created by other team members in the department Adhere to team processes and protocol to enable seamless, cross-team collaboration Advocate for and assist stakeholders with the strengthening of visual storytelling throughout our publications Educate stakeholders on best data visualization practices with the goal of strengthening visuals across our content suiteQualifications:Required A portfolio of data visualization work Experience in a news or research-oriented organization Degree in digital journalism, visual data journalism, or graphic design Fluency in Adobe CC tools (especially Illustrator) Excellent visual skills and a demonstrable understanding of layout, typography, and color Experience expressing a creative vision within an established design system Strong understanding of Excel beyond charts, e.g., familiarity with adjustments of datasets, Power Query, Power Pivot, Index, Match, array formulas Familiarity with data visualization tools including Datawrapper, RawGraphs, Tableau and/or Power BI. Strong understanding of web development including HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and its libraries Familiarity with Svelte Experience coding interactive data stories using tools including ai2html, D3.js and Layer Cake At least one or two specialties that might include motion design (After Effects), UX/UI (Figma, XD), cartography (QGIS), 3D (Blender), data-dashboard design (Power BI and/or Tableau), and advanced data analysis (R and/or Python) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills using Microsoft tools Experience and interest in working in a highly collaborative team environment Experience communicating visuals ideas to and building consensus with a wide range of teams and stakeholdersAdditional skills Familiarity with economic data Familiarity with FigmaFor US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is [[$78,500.00 - [[$113,750.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
