Job Summary:

As Software Engineer II in the Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology (DEET) organization, you will work with a team of software engineers helping to build and power the end user experience on Disney’s consumer-facing products. Every day, you’ll work with team members, implementing solutions to very complex and challenging problems for a variety of systems involved with the Direct-to-Consumer platforms. We’re looking for a self-motivated team player with a strong desire to improve the products and services they build and support. Someone who holds themselves and their teammates accountable in a professional, collaborative manner. An enthusiastic technologist who can provide a fresh perspective and bring innovative insight to our initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with a team of engineers building software in a collaborative, full-stack development process.

  • Participate in high-level architecture discussions and planning sessions to make sure our software solutions meet product requirements.

  • Build Core UI Screens and backend software components in our Localization hub.

  • Build and manage code in AWS using TerraForm, Spinnaker, Jenkins, Docker, and other CI/CD Tools.

  • Collaborate with other team members (including product owners, TPMs, and other stakeholders) to achieve product and business requirements.

  • Participate in the code review process by providing feedback on pull requests.

  • Participate in on-call rotations, supporting systems and services during production incidents.

The Globalization Tools Engineering (GTE) team within SEMI is hiring a Software Engineer II to enhance and support the Experience Platform for Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and the other streaming services we support. GTE is responsible for the internal platform tooling that enables our Localization team to translate strings into more than 30 languages to make Disney+ a truly global experience.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

What to Bring:

  • Fluent in Java programming language and proficient in at least one more

  • Experience building RESTful services with Java/Spring, or other server-side programming platform.

  • Understanding of data persistence technologies such as SQL/Postgres, and data migration tools such as Prisma or Flyway.

  • Understanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await).

  • Familiarity with writing unit tests, integration tests, and functional tests.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-learner, independent, excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of source control concepts and exposure to Git and Jenkins.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in software engineering

  • Fluency with Java and at least one other programming language

  • Experience building and shipping a full stack web application

  • Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases, PostgreSQL a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Java/Spring

  • Experience with Docker

  • Proficiency with AWS or other cloud services provider

  • Experience with ML platform engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

The hiring range for this position in NYC is $118,000.00-$158,200.00. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
