Overview

The overall purpose of this job is to provide social services and mental health support to students K-8 grade with the goal of enhancing student success at school and improving their overall well-being and quality of life.

As the Social Worker, you will provide culturally responsive mental health, individual and group socio-emotional learning (SEL), crisis prevention, and de-escalation services.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the needs of the audience and develop individualized care plans.

  • Provide individual and group counseling and support to students dealing with various social and emotional issues.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and records.

  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Develop and lead SEL workshops for day school and after school programs.

  • Assist school leadership with supporting students during key transitions such as arrival, lunch periods, and dismissal. Provide classroom push-ins as requested to work one-to-one with students in need.

  • Design and lead multisession psychosocial groups for special populations, such as children with families in transition, students in need of developing social skills, LGBTQ youth, and others.

  • Outreach to parents/caregivers as needed, obtain consents for service and child histories, and provide information, counseling, and referral to community supports.

  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards of social work practice.

Job Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

  • NYS LMSW Required

  • Knowledge of social work theories, principles, and practices.

  • Ability to conduct assessments and develop care plans.

  • Strong counselling and coaching skills.

  • Understanding of community resources and services.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.

  • Prior experience in a school setting and the ability to collaborate effectively with CBO staff, school leadership, parents, teachers, and other constituencies.

Other essential requirements of this role require:

  • The ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders over the phone and/or office applications.

  • The use of various types of vision, including but not limited to close vision, distance vision, and color differentiation.

  • The ability to work in a moderately noisy environment commonly found in business offices, such as sounds from computers and printers, as well as light traffic.
