We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead the evolution of our commerce strategy on Mail. This role will focus on designing products that drive conversion and deliver meaningful utilities to our users while also contributing to a highly targeted, premium ad product. Your expertise in user-centered design and commerce will help us redefine how we connect with our users and monetize our platform through innovative, value-driven solutions.

Who we're looking for


We are looking for a passionate product designer with vision, creativity, and a savvy for both the aesthetic and structural aspects of UX design to collaborate with designers and partners on Yahoo experiences across desktop, mobile web, iOS, and Android. The ideal candidate excels in a collaborative work environment and is able to digest and synthesize short and long term business needs and product goals.

Responsibilities

Product designers at Yahoo collaborate with partners to define the vision for new features, while owning and driving the craftsmanship for every interaction and visual design detail. Day-to-day, you will:

  • 5 years of experience in user experience, product, or relevant design fields.
  • Strong user interface and visual design skills.
  • Spearhead the design strategy, focusing on delivering cohesive and intuitive user experiences through iterative design processes and collaboration.
  • Comfortable observing and experimenting with customer behavior to scale improvements.
  • Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, data analysts, and business owners to identify opportunities and define design goals aligned with business objectives.
  • Partner closely with user research and usability testing to gather insights and validate design decisions, ensuring a user-centric approach in all experiments.
  • Create high-fidelity design deliverables, including wireframes, prototypes, and user flows, to communicate design intent and functionality effectively.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from stakeholders, user testing, and performance metrics to continuously improve and optimize user experiences.
  • Champion user-centric design principles and methodologies to ground designs in data and user insights.
  • Act as a voice for our users, advocating for solving user problems effectively.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering teams to drive innovation and push the boundaries of what's possible.
  • Adapt quickly between high-level strategic thinking and evaluating detailed research, interaction, and design execution.
  • Demonstrate strong storytelling skills to drive alignment and influence across teams.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging design patterns, and UX best practices to infuse innovative and cutting-edge solutions into our products.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure brand consistency and a seamless transition from acquisition channels to the product experience.
  • Mentor, guide, and influence other designers on the team, providing feedback with emotional intelligence to teammates and cross-functional partners.
  • Own project priorities and the squad roadmap, maintaining flexibility to support the team as needs evolve.
You're likely to succeed in this roll, if you are someone who:
  • Draws on all aspects of product design-information architecture, multi-step flows, motion-to create comprehensive experiences;
  • Delivers consistent, polished and balanced layouts, through typography, color and visual hierarchy;
  • Uses prototypes as a foundational piece of your design process both to identify appropriate solutions and influence collaborators;
  • Solves user problems in creative ways that go beyond obvious, expected solutions;
  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence when interacting with teammates and other co-workers;
  • Presents designs clearly and confidently to facilitate useful feedback while shifting approach based on the audience and desired outcome;
  • Takes initiative and accountability for timelines and outcomes;
  • Contributes to the design community both inside your company and beyond; and
  • Desires and takes action to grow professional skills.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability in digital product design for web and mobile software.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates expertise in visual design, interaction design, prototyping and product thinking.
  • Shown history of leading a user-centered design process from end-to-end.
  • Proficiency in software to build design concepts, prototypes, assets and specifications.
  • Skills such as illustration, photography, animation, data visualization, conducting user interviews, front-end programming or data science are a plus!
Even better
  • Experience with major product evolution or expansion (e.g., redesigns, theming, modes, platforms, or accessibility/internationalization).
  • Prior experience designing for consumer apps.
  • Ability to write code for prototyping, documentation, or infrastructure.

The compensation for this position ranges from $128, 250.00 - $266, 875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
