Position Summary:

The Labor Market Senior Economics Research Assistant 2-year internship requires a person having both backgrounds in economics and data analysis, with a strong interest in US labor markets. As part of the Economy Strategy & Finance Center team, the Labor Market Economics Research Assistant will learn how to work with complex datasets, produce industry-recognized labor market indices, and help generate data-driven research insights. The Research Assistant will primarily support research in the following areas: 1)Help Wanted OnLine Data Series®, The Conference Board’s proprietary job posting database; and 2) US labor market research into key economic themes. The Research Assistant will be given the opportunity to publish a research report showcasing their work over the internship period.

This role is a 2-year internship with no guarantee of continued employment upon the conclusion of the internship. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Produces and supports the monthly production of The Conference Board’sHelp Wanted OnLine Data Series®gauges, Employment Trends Index, and other labor market indicators as needed, in a timely manner meeting all deadlines.

  • Assists in troubleshooting data issues, validating data sources, and creating actionable plans for improvements to production processes.

  • Supports labor market research with the Labor Markets team, participating in the creation of initial insights, data analysis, and visualizations on topics relevant to The Conference Board’s membership.

  • Draws on data analysis responsibilities and labor market trends to develop insights to be featured in future research projects.

  • Communicates insights to senior economists, presenting a cohesive narrative through data sources, methodology, and visualizations.

  • Contributes to the overall Economics Program through support of wider research projects, rapid response deliverables, monthly forecasting, and presentation preparation.

  • Administering the Labor Markets website, including uploading content, removing content, and providing suggestions for improvement.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • BA or working towards a Master’s in economics, data science, or related field.

  • Preferred coursework in economics, data science, statistics, and computer science.

  • Research and/or work experience preferred.

  • Experience using statistical languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL) to manipulate data and draw insights. Experience using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with data visualization (e.g., Excel, R, Tableau).

  • Experience working with economic data (e.g., BLS, BEA, Census, IPUMS) and handling large and complex datasets.

  • Knowledge of the US labor market is required.

  • Candidate should be detail-oriented; a team and independent worker able to effectively multi-task and meet strict deadlines.

  • Candidate should have demonstrated writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Innovative and able to develop new project ideas.
