The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Talent Management and Human Resources, the Senior Associate Director, Talent Development and Human Resources is focused on ensuring responsibility for driving employee success throughout the full employee lifecycle at Columbia Business School. The role will play a key part in fostering a positive and productive workplace environment by partnering with HR leadership and managers across departments to support employee relations, talent development and HR operations. The Senior Associate Director will ensure the seamless execution of HR processes, maintain data integrity and promote compliance with institutional policies and employment laws.Collaborating with the CBS Human Resources team, the Senior Associate Director will engage with the diverse range of stakeholders to shape and implement Human Resource strategies that reflect Columbia Business School's commitment to excellence and continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

Performance Management & Employee & Labor Relations

  • In collaboration with HR Leadership, provide guidance, coaching, and counseling to managers on performance management, employee relations and staffing issues, while also serving as the initial point of contact for employee relations matters, offering support on conflict resolution, grievances and disciplinary action.

  • Collaborates with Managers and the Director, consulting with Central HR and Office of General Counsel on complex talent management issues and disciplinary, grievance and investigatory procedures for Officers of Administration and Union Local 2110 members and student casual employees.

  • Ensures that all employee relations matters are documented accurately and handled in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

  • Supports the development of positive performance improvement procedures designed to foster employee growth, enhance performance, and encourage continuous development through clear expectations and constructive feedback.

  • Plays an integral role in enhancing the rolling performance review process and works to develop a structured approach where managers and employees engage in regular feedback loops, focusing on specific examples of performance, clear goal setting, actionable development plans, and a collaborative approach to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

  • Work closely with the Senior Director managing a streamlined fiscal year end performance appraisal process. Delivers communications to managers and employees on the appropriate procedures and processes for receipt of reviews to ensure compliance with CBS policies.

  • Collects, analyzes and maintains data gathered from Employee Reviews to inform targeted leadership development, mentorship opportunities, and workforce and succession planning, aligning with CBS's commitment to fostering employee growth and career progression.

Onboarding and Off-boarding

  • Collaborates with HR Leadership to develop and enhance an engaging and comprehensive onboarding program that integrates new hires into the School's culture and operations.

  • Continuously assess and improve onboarding practices to enhance employee engagement and retention.

  • In conjunction with the Director, work to implement a stay interview program designed to proactively gather feedback from employees and identify factors influencing job satisfaction and retention.

  • Oversees the exit interview process, analyze findings, and share insights with HR Leadership to to support strategic decision-making , improve employee experiences and drive retention initiatives.

Leave of Absences

  • Oversees the execution of employee leave programs, including but not limited to, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), short-term disability, parental leave, and other paid or unpaid leave policies.

  • Tracks, monitors, and reports on employee leaves and absences to ensure proper documentation and adherence to legal requirements.

  • Partners with Central HR and Leave Management to ensure that leaves are accurately tracked, and employees receive accurate benefits and support during their leave.

  • Provides guidance to managers and employees on leave policies, including eligibility, return-to-work processes and reasonable accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 4 years of related experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing effective employee engagement initiatives that enhance organizational culture and performance.

  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, complex setting.

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • In-depth understanding of employment laws, HR policies, and industry best practices.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with experience in resolving conflicts effectively.

  • Exceptional presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years' experience is preferred. HR Generalist experience preferred.
