About the Role

Are you passionate about developing innovative AI technologies and shaping the future of advertising? We are looking for a talented and inventive Applied Scientist with expertise in Generative AI, LLMs, Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to join our Sponsored Products team. In this role, you will focus on leveraging Generative AI and LLMs to build scalable targeting solutions that enhance ad relevance and performance. You will help design advanced algorithms that enable advertisers to maximize their ROI while delivering value to Amazon shoppers.

Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will:

  • Design and implement state-of-the-art Generative AI and LLM-based algorithms to power Amazon’s advertising systems.

  • Optimize model performance, scalability, and efficiency for production-grade inference and deployment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of scientists and engineers to gather and preprocess large datasets, improve training infrastructure, and accelerate innovation in the ads space.

  • Experiment with innovative methods to enhance generative AI model quality, such as prompt engineering, LLM fine-tuning, and alignment techniques.

  • Conduct benchmarking and develop frameworks to evaluate and improve generative AI solutions.

  • Publish high-quality research papers while applying theoretical breakthroughs to real-world business challenges.

  • Provide thought leadership on how generative AI and LLMs can drive innovation and improve the customer experience in Amazon Advertising.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

  • Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.

  • Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
