Description

Macmillan is looking for a highly organized individual with an affinity for books to learn the nuances and complexities of one of the most dynamic and innovative retail accounts. The Amazon Sales Assistant provides support for the seven-person team servicing Amazon and Amazon Canada, both print and digital. This position offers an excellent introduction to publishing from the vantage of high-volume online retail demand, and includes learning about new and forthcoming books across multiple adult imprints; assisting with book pitches and presentations; tracking orders and sales performance; and facilitating merchandising opportunities at Amazon. Reporting directly to the Director of Amazon Sales and working closely with five national account managers and a product manager, the sales assistant will interact with several departments within Macmillan, from supply chain, sales operations, and fulfillment to publisher-level marketing, and publicity. Candidates must be willing to enter, collect, analyze, and disseminate book and sales-related data on a regular basis.

What you'll do:

  • Attend select launch, marketing, and sales meetings to learn about books published across Macmillan’s imprints.

  • Work in conjunction with the Amazon National Account Managers to track consumer demand, stock status, and Amazon backorders of published and not-yet-published books on a weekly and ad-hoc basis.

  • Nominate Amazon merchandising on a monthly and seasonal cadence.

  • Track deals performance and generate dynamic sales summary reporting for seasonal Amazon deal events.

  • Compile seasonal merchandising nominations and circulate weekly NYP order-tracking reports for Amazon Canada.

  • Maintain and update ongoing media and key deadlines calendars for the team.

  • Develop copy and presentation materials to promote Macmillan books to primary contacts at Amazon on a seasonal and monthly cadence.

  • Generate and deliver editorial pitches for select titles during seasonal presentations.

What you'll bring:

  • A working knowledge of business software including Excel (Google Workspace familiarity a plus).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • The ability to write engaging descriptive and marketing copy.

  • The ability to focus on multiple titles, tasks and goals at the same time.

  • A broad and diverse interest in books.

Ideal Experience:

  • No prior publishing experience required, though book-specific retail experience or coursework is considered valuable.

  • College Bachelor’s degree recommended

This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
