Position Summary
The basic function of the Research Assistant/Technician (grant funded - one year) position is to support the development and implementation of computational models and analytical tools that integrate experimental data. This role is crucial in advancing the lab's research program, which focuses on understanding the computational mechanisms underlying adaptive information processing and decision-making in both healthy and disordered conditions. The candidate will assist graduate and postdoctoral researchers in constructing, refining, and testing biologically-inspired algorithms and mathematical models that simulate complex neural dynamics, contributing directly to the lab's efforts in bridging the gap between theoretical neuroscience and practical biomedical applications.
Responsibilities
(50%) Development of Mathematical Models and Analytical Tools:
Assist graduate and postdoctoral researchers in constructing and refining mathematical models that simulate neural dynamics.
Develop analytical tools that integrate experimental data into computational models.
Collaborate with researchers to design and implement biologically-inspired algorithms.
(35%) Evaluation and Testing of Computational Platforms:
Evaluate and test computational platforms developed by lab members.
Validate the accuracy and efficiency of computational models and tools.
Provide feedback and suggest improvements based on testing outcomes
(10%) Maintenance of Lab Resources:
Assist in maintaining common lab resources, including servers, workstations, research manuals, and data/code repositories.
Ensure computational resources are up-to-date and operating efficiently.
Organize and document lab protocols and computational procedures.
(5%) Additional Duties:
Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required by the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biomedical-related disciplines or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience: Minimum six months of experience in a research environment. At least six months of experience developing mathematical or machine learning models (either through coursework or research positions).
- Skills and Knowledge: The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and be self-motivated, positively contributing to the lab's aims and objectives. Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are essential. The candidate should have the ability to prioritize tasks and work both independently and collaboratively with undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab. This role also requires working under the direct supervision of senior lab personnel, adapting to varying levels of guidance and oversight. High proficiency in English is required.
- Preferred: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience in computational neuroscience or biologically-inspired machine learning research. Candidates with laboratory experience in computer science, biology, physics, artificial intelligence, or related fields are encouraged to apply, though expertise in computational neuroscience or biomedical engineering is highly preferred.
