City of New York Project Development Coordinator for the First Deputy Commissioner in New York, New York

Job Description

ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES

The First Deputy Commissioner oversees the Business Development & Special Events Division, the Communications Division, the Lifeguard Division, and Government Relations for NYC Parks. We are seeking a candidate with excellent organizational and time-management skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the capacity to remain calm under pressure. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can confidently and effectively collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure tasks and projects are completed on time.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level support to the NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner with a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion.

  • Assist in managing a complex schedule for the First Deputy Commissioner, handling frequent re-prioritizations that often require independent decision-making.

  • Proactively identify and prioritize situations requiring the First Deputy Commissioner’s attention through independent analysis and judgment.

  • Coordinate resources and assemble appropriate reference and backup materials for all meetings and events.

  • Conduct research and prepare presentations, briefings, and reports.

  • Support the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff in Government Relations projects.

  • Provide outstanding customer service and administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the First Deputy Commissioner’s office, including answering phones and drafting correspondence to constituents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the First Deputy Commissioner and the Chief of Staff to the First Deputy Commissioner.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
