JOB DESCRIPTION

Role Summary

Mount Sinai is embracing new payment models that reward value-based arrangements to foster ongoing health improvement. The Pharmacy team is responsible for developing programs, measurements and processes to improve the overall total cost of care, ensuring that we meet critical contract thresholds and that our patients have an effective and seamlessly connected healthcare experience. The Program Manager supports department or program leadership and manages the activities and functions of a large or complex program or multiple programs to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.

The Program Manager for Pharmacy role is both strategic and operational, working directly with clinical and operational leadership to develop strategy, identify and track performance on key indicators and cost indicators, analyze performance against national benchmarks, plan content for physician education initiatives, and serve as the point of contact for the pharmacy health team and physician practice managers. The Program Manager will interact with a wide variety of stakeholders throughout the health system and prepare executive presentations about the program’s financial and clinical impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work directly with the Pharmacy leadership to support high-impact clinical and operational utilization reduction initiatives. Manages pharmacy program strategy planning, annual operational milestones, program and staff oversight, and key performance indicator tracking. Develops and independently implements new or revised program goals, strategies and objectives to sustain and grow programs and services.

  3. Develops and schedules a program work plan in accordance with specifications, objectives and funding limitations; oversees daily operations and coordinates program activities through assigned staff; prioritizes and delegates work activities.

  4. Prepares budget proposals and recommendations and establishes a budget control system for controlling expenditures; controls expenditures in accordance with budget allocations; recommends equipment and resources for program.

  5. Prepares proposals for corporate and foundation funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors/donors.

  6. Confers with and advises staff and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretations; refers to appropriate department or person when unable to respond.

  7. Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies/funders.

  8. Evaluates program effectiveness to develop and implement improved methods; devises evaluation methodology and implements; analyzes results and takes proper action based on outcome.

  9. Oversees and manages the activities of subordinates and consultants and provides leadership and direction for staff, if applicable, setting an effective agenda to ensure that performance goals are met.

  10. Create and effectively manage program work plans weekly, coordinating across multiple stakeholders to ensure work is accomplished on time

  11. Proactively and creatively address any challenges that may arise during project execution, communicate risks with leadership timely and proactively

  12. Develop presentations that communicate the goals, content, and progress of strategic initiatives to leaders across the Pharmacy Health enterprise, the broader Mount Sinai Health System, and key external stakeholder groups

  13. Communicate and manage projects between different departments and teams to support the pharmacy program (Epic/IT, credentialing, finance, policy etc.)

  14. Support development of financial projections and ROI models for commencement and expansion of a pharmacy program

  15. Conduct analyses using relevant data and other tools to determine the impact of pharmacy program decisions (e.g., distribution of chronic disease, etc.) and to implement business and/or operational components of the pharmacy program

  16. Develop standard operating procedures, such as documentation and workflows, across clinical pharmacy program sites

  17. Participates and leads key departmental meetings on a weekly basis to serve as key point person for the team and surveils for continuous improvement opportunities

  18. Provides support for Ambulatory Pharmacy & Therapeutics committee administrative management, follow up, and dissemination of information

  19. Serve as a co-preceptor for the Ambulatory Pharmacy Management rotation in pharmacy training programs. Support residency and staff recruitment activities as directed.

  20. Assist with training and onboarding new staff and pharmacy trainees to the department

  21. Utilize strong interpersonal skills to influence and manage team members to maintain smooth operations. Contributes to employee performance evaluations for staff.

  22. Provide staff coverage on workflows as needed

  23. All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors' degree with at least 3 years of experience at a top tier management consulting firm or other industry that requires management of high-stakes, complex initiatives

  • Masters degree (MHA or MPH), required

  • Analytics capabilities required; experience with healthcare claims analysis highly preferred

  • Interest in and demonstrated passion for healthcare required, experience with healthcare companies (e.g., delivery systems, insurance companies, start-ups) a plus

  • Analytic skillset able to build models and perform data analysis across finance, business needs (e.g., market sizing), and health topics (e.g., claims analysis) with guidance from Quality Director
