Description

ThePeer Health Educatorprovides support for HIV Prevention & Literacy: Older Adults (HLA) programs outreach and training efforts. The position is responsible for facilitation of Peer Led workshops and other trainings specifically curated for Older Adults with HIV or susceptible to HIV infection. The Peer Educator participates in implementation of outreach and client recruitment efforts. The Peer Educator also participates in the planning and implementing of all programs related to meetings and events.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

  • Plan for and facilitate Peer led workshops on various topics for GMHC clients.

  • Assist in the development of curricula for groups sessions, workshops, and training.

  • Provide program and educational presentations to CBOs and other organizations with a focus on Healthy Aging.

  • Assists in coordinating and co-facilitating prevention and community-level events as assigned.

  • Assists in the creation, updating/development of educational materials on issues relevant to HIV & Aging.

  • Assists in the organizing of outreach efforts to increase public awareness of the needs of prioritized community members.

  • Provides information and referrals for program clients.

  • Conducts documentation, reporting, and data entry of all assigned program services.

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with all confidentiality laws and ethical principles applicable to HIV and substance use fields.

Other Responsibilities

The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:

  • Contributes to all relevant CQI activities for optimal delivery of all program services.

  • Assists in coordination of unique events.

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with community service providers.

  • Assist with special projects and perform other program-related duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

Education and Certification

  • A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.

  • Knowledge of health and sexuality, especially HIV/AIDS.

  • Additional knowledge about and/or experience working with older adults impacted by HIV & AIDS, a plus.

Special Skills and Knowledge

In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following:

  • Previous experience as a peer health educator, a plus.

  • Experience in outreach and presentations on HIV/AIDS.

  • Proven experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Strong interpersonal and training/Facilitation skills.

  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS related issues including, but not limited to: HIV counseling and testing, HIV confidentiality, Harm Reduction, and risk-reduction counseling.

  • Ability to multi-task in a faced-paced, outcomes-oriented environment.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, which includes Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Salary Description

$20 / Hour
