The New School Part-Time Faculty | School of Fashion in New York, New York

Responsibilities:

Parsons School of Fashion at The New School University is seeking applicants with a diverse range of skills, backgrounds and interests within their professional work, creative practice, teaching philosophies, and lived experiences to teach courses centering Indigenous knowledge, Land-based practices, and fashion systems.

The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment.

Applicants should have knowledge and expertise in Indigenous Fashion from a contemporary perspective and be able to teach to a diverse student body from varying disciplines across the New School, with a broad range of understanding of Indigenous knowledges and Land-based Practices. We are looking to inform students of a more holistic view of fashion, fashion as community, fashion as a form of visual communication and expression of one’s identity and sense of belonging. These courses are practice based, so students will learn new approaches to fashion systems and Land engagements based on reverence and respect, altering the way fashion designers see the world. This curriculum aims to challenge the deeply entrenched systems of domination and over-exploitation of natural resources within the field of fashion production and processes of making. In hopes of centering Indigenous knowledge, worldviews and theory to guide and inform new approaches to slow design and zero-waste applications within current fashion methodologies.
