Job Title: Lead Engineer - Planning Innovation & Development

Reports to: Manager - Planning Innovation & Development
Location: In Office, Rochester NY, Orange CT, Augusta ME, Binghamton NY

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $111,545 - $139,431

Job Summary

With general direction, this role is responsible for the development and automation of Advanced Planning tools and applications. Support the development and implementation of the Company's initiatives with respect to grid modernization technologies and clean energy goals that enhance the electric system across the Avangrid Networks operating companies. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled and motivated, have a strong technical background in power systems and distribution planning, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation. This position will coordinate with other departments during the tools development and automation.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, implementation, maintenance and automation of Integrated System Planning Tools across Avangrid. Mentor and provide technical direction and support to the rest of the team Provide technical support and training to the users of the tools. Coordinate with other departments during the development and automation of tools Identify and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of the Planning process Provide technical assistance and consulting to other departments as necessary. Work with vendors, contractors and consultants to develop and automate tools and applications Assists in software product design, providing feedback to developers, performing testing of new features, and providing support to end users. Acts as an Agile Product Owner of new tools developed. Responsible for product maintenance, reporting, product documentation and training of new users. Responsible for creating dashboards, presenting to Upper Management, Executives and Regulatory Commissions.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:
•BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

•5-7 years of relevant experience

Skills/Abilities:

Required Technical skills:

  • Power systems engineering
  • Knowledge of the distribution planning process
  • Experience with distribution power flow software and grid model management
  • Experience with Grid Modernization and Clean Energy concepts including: Beneficial Electrification, DER & Load Forecasting, Distribution Automation, Non-Wires Alternatives, Hosting Capacity, Volt-VAR Optimization
  • Capacity planning during normal and contingency system configurations, DER distribution system interconnections, reliability and resiliency concepts

Desired Technical skills:
  • Python Scripting
  • SQL
  • Cyme power flow analysis
  • JIRA project management.
  • Experience with Agile software development, Scrum methodology
