Amalgamated Bank Human Resource Business Partner in New York, New York

Amalgamated Bank seeks a Human Resources Business Partner to provide holistic and strategic HR support to the Banking & Investments and Operations & Product divisions. They will contribute to the creation and execution of division and company-wide culture and employee experience. This individual will report to the EVP, CHRO, and will provide consulting support for a full range of HR services, including management consulting, employee relations, employee development, compensation management, organizational development, talent acquisition, and talent management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Partner with business units to align people-related strategies with management objectives.

  • Maintain an effective level of knowledge about the business units and understand their goals, culture, and competition.

  • Demonstrate business acumen through an in-depth understanding of the business unit, its various functions and roles, and be knowledgeable of how each contributes to the overall success of the bank.

  • Participate in establishing and implementing change initiatives designed to support business-related goals.

  • Proactively assess HR-related needs and communicate these needs within HR and business management to develop integrated solutions.

  • Consult with management on human resource-related issues.

  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation.

  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

  • Provide expertise, guidance, and coaching to leaders in managing and resolving highly sensitive and complex employee relations matters.

  • Formulate partnerships across the HR function and with line management and employees to deliver value-added service.

  • Use metrics to analyze people issues and trends.

  • Provide project management and support process improvement within the Human Resources department.

  • Provide direct recruiting support for specified positions

  • Perform other duties as directed.

    Problem Solving & Decision Making:

  • Proactive self-starter able to work under minimal supervision.

  • Make autonomous decisions appropriate for a VP-level position.

  • Assess challenges and proactively communicate solutions to the CHRO and the business unit leader.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of skills and training.

  • Minimum of 10+ years of related Human Resources Business Partner experience.

  • Demonstrated success as a business partner to managers to drive strategic people-related change in a business.

  • Experience in talent management, organizational development, employee relations, and recruitment.

  • Proven ability to proactively translate business objectives into effective HR strategies.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with and influence peers and other leaders in making business decisions to solve complex problems.

  • Ability to develop strong, trusting relationships to collaboratively achieve results.

  • In-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to the management of employees.

  • Ability to lead special projects and teams by establishing project action plans and executing against plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a geographically dispersed team and navigate the requirements of multiple state HR laws (New York, Washington, D.C., Massachusetts, and California).

  • Business acumen and analytical skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and ADP HR systems.

  • Experience with merger and acquisition activity.

  • Experience working with a union a plus.

    Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $110,000.00 – $120,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
