New York University Full-Time Junior Research Scientist in New York, New York

About the project

This exciting and challenging clinical trial will explore the feasibility of a remote music-listening intervention aimed at stroke recovery. The study involves recruiting 60 patients with stroke, who will listen to music for one hour daily for one month using a provided smartphone. Participants will be evaluated at four time points:

  • One month before the intervention

  • Just before the intervention

  • Immediately after the intervention

  • Three months post-intervention

    Evaluations will include behavioral assessments, MRI scans, and physiological data collection.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in the project by:

  • Patient Recruitment : Recruiting and enrolling participants, ensuring clear communication and follow-up.

  • Data Collection : Administering behavioral, neuroimaging (MRI), and physiological testing during evaluations.

  • Data Preprocessing and Analysis : Preparing, organizing, and analyzing data, including behavioral, neuroimaging, and music-related data.

  • Patient Support : Conducting daily calls to assist participants with their music playlists, troubleshoot issues, and monitor compliance.

  • Music Analysis :Performing computational analysis of the tracks the patients listened to using music information retrieval tools

    Lab support: In addition to their main role in this project, the person will be asked to support other projects from the team when needed.

Fully On-Site, New York City: The job duties for this position are highly local in nature and require onsite presence to be performed.

Hours : Full-time (40 hours/week)

Salary (including benefits) : In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $47,500 - $48,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

We are looking for a candidate who is:

  • Educational Background : Holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, or related disciplines).

  • Interpersonal & Recruitment Skills : Comfortable and effective at recruiting participants and interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Organized and Dependable : Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and reliable to manage multiple responsibilities in a structured manner.

  • Technically Skilled : Familiar with coding (preferably in Python) and open to learning more as needed.

  • Experienced in Data Collection : Prior experience working with human participants in behavioral, physiological, or neuroimaging research is required.

  • Hardworking and Adaptable : Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ability to adapt to a dynamic research environment.
