POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med) is located on the campus of The City College of New York (CCNY) in the heart of Harlem. It is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2016. The CUNY Med offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master’s Degree (28-month program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school’s mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. The CUNY School of Medicine as the home of healers and leaders, places a special emphasis on addressing educational and healthcare disparities. The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY Med) is seeking an Executive Director for Human Resources. This leadership position involves frequent high-level interaction and collaboration with leaders across the full range of the medical education ecosystem. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Deanor her designeeand works closely and strategically with the Associate Dean for Clinical Administration, Finance, and Strategyand the Associate Dean for Special Projects and Chief of Staff. As a senior member of the Dean's Cabinet, the Executive Director will work closely with the Dean, Senior and Associate Deans, the Legal Counsel & Labor Relations Director, and the Chief Diversity Officer.

The Executive Director of Human Resources will be responsible for a growing and dynamic medical school. The Executive Director is responsible for designing and managing programs to orient new hires, provide professional development, and facilitate access to benefits for all college personnel. They will develop communication that strengthens the connection between and among faculty and staff. The Executive Director of HR is responsible for administering policies and procedures that ensure a supportive and inclusive environment for the academic medical enterprise including undergraduate and graduate medical education and clinical affiliates.

The Executive Director will:

· Advise management on hiring practices, salary determinations, promotion criteria, reclassification criteria, and merit consideration to ensure compliance with university policy and contractual agreements;

· Provide leadership to enhance HR services by administering and institutionalizing school-wide policies, procedures, and practices and communicating them effectively to the medical school community;

· Liaise with the School's Leadership Team and confer with the Dean, Associate Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs on personnel and labor relations matters and all efforts to encourage diversity, equal opportunity, and the fair and impartial treatment of all School of Medicine employees;

· Plan and implement professional development and employee relations programs that help the medical school improve service and increase employee engagement.

· Lead efforts to enhance customer services by creating, writing, and disseminating College-wide HR policies, procedures, and practices in all functional areas of human resources information technology

· Serve on the HEO screening committee which recommends appointments. job reclassifications, and merit increases for administrative staff to the President.

· Co-chair Workplace Violence Committees with Legal, and serve on the Senior Leadership Committee and other college and CUNY Committees as needed; Investigate and respond to employee workplace complaints or concerns, working with managers to resolve where feasible. Exercise good judgment to elevate and refer issues appropriately and promptly.

· In collaboration with Legal Counsel and Labor designee, prepare disciplinary charges and specifications, and Step I grievance responses

· Respond to a variety of requests, such as employment discrimination complaints from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the New York State Division of Human Rights.

· Work with union representatives and management to address labor issues and counsel supervisors on decisions.

· Cultivate positive interactions and relations with university partners and other external stakeholders, including employee unions.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

Preferred Qualifications:

·CUNY & CUNYFirst experience

·Master’s Degree in HR or related field

· Professional HR certifications preferred, HRCI SPHR, SHRM-SCP Professional HR certifications preferred, HRCI SPHR, SHRM-SCP

· Fiscal experience in developing and monitoring the budget and other resources for the unit.

· Ability to effectively communicate with learners, physicians, scientists, academic leaders, faculty and staff

· Strong organization, negotiation, and process-management skills and ability to manage human resources.

CUNY TITLE

Assistant Administrator

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$135,000 - $165,000

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
