Job Description:

The mission of the Properly Clerk Section is to accept, catalog, safeguard, store, and produce as required for court, return to legal owner or otherwise legally dispose of all property coming into the custody of the New York City Police Department. Categories of property taken in include evidence required for criminal cases, safekeeping of found property, decedent's property, prisoner property, property no longer needed as evidence or for further investigation, contraband seized, peddler property pending release, DNA evidence, and property confiscated for forfeiture proceedings. Property received by the Property Clerk Section includes cash, jewelry rifles, handguns, various weapons, general property of every description, evidence related to homicides and other crimes, and vehicles All property coming into and leaving the Property Clerk Section is subject to strict legal constraints.

Patrol/ 34th Precinct - (Property)

The 34th Precinct is seeking an Evidence Property Control Specialist who will be responsible for the inventory of property. The Evidence Property and Control Specialist will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following job duties:

  • Receives/ maintains, vouchers, records, logs and indexes associated with all property received;

  • Stores vouchered property including evidence and non-evidence property, firearms, narcotics, etc;

  • Confirms identity of persons requesting release of property, etc;

  • Receives/ prepares packages and labels property and evidence for storage purposes;

  • Moves, loads, unloads all types of property large or small items from one location to another.

Qualifications

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and

a. Two years of full-time, satisfactory experience in the areas of security, law enforcement and/or active military duty; or

b. Successful completion of 60 college semester credits at an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 cumulative index grade point average.

Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

Special Patrolman Requirement: At the time of appointment, you must meet the following qualifications for Special Patrolman status (a status given by the New York City Police Department pursuant to Title 38, Chapter 13 of the Rules of the City of New York).

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to the minimum qualification requirements, at least one year of experience in Assignment Level I or in a supervisory capacity.
