Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Energy Planning Engineer to join our High-Performance Buildings team. The team is focused on the east region of the US but works nationally and internationally as well. This highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary team provides design leadership and advisory services to clients striving to realize more sustainable and resilient building portfolio operations. The role is based in the New York/New Jersey region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support in the development of decarbonization plans and leading the team’s energy modeling services. The role is primarily technical in nature with a focus on early-stage energy and decarbonization strategies, and energy analyses and modeling to support third-party sustainability certifications such as LEED and Envision.

The team’s recent and ongoing projects include airport and university decarbonization plans, and Federal energy planning.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical assessment of decarbonization strategies using a combination of modeling, proprietary software, and the development of customized analysis tools.

  • Lead energy modeling for LEED and Envision projects and prepare reports and documentation for submission to GBCI and ISI.

  • Preparing and presenting results and recommendations, in report or presentation format, to clients, design teams and internal teams.

  • Support of proposal efforts through the development of technical approach and associated fees.

The varied nature of our work must be reflected in our team's expertise and skills; as such we seek applicants with a solid understanding of the principles of performance-led design for both buildings and campus- or campus-level energy infrastructure, and power generation. A high-level working knowledge of these systems and a propensity for creative problem-solving is therefore critical. The ability to develop and communicate ideas clearly will be seen as a significant strength in any potential candidate.

This is a role for someone who shares our passion for decarbonization and wants to scale up and diversify their contribution to this transition. Our team is constantly growing, and this role provides a unique opportunity to influence the industry and shape a team to deliver decarbonization work for the future.
