PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Director of Software Development will report to the Chief Technology Officer and lead a growing distributed team of software engineers, database engineers, DevSecOps, in the US and abroad. The Director of Software Development will lead the development of our enterprise platform to provide support for our current install base with a growing team of developers, architects and first line managers, and will partner closely to support infrastructure for the customer-facing software developed by R&D. The Director of Software Development will collaborate with Operations, Sales and Business Development to derive product requirements and to improve company policies and standards.

  • Passionate about both building and supporting an enterprise platform to support products and maintaining legacy applications.

  • Change management leader; experience leading teams, particularly long-tenured associates, through organizational growth and scale. Given the rapid rate of change as Antech scales globally, ambiguity is constant. It’s imperative that this position be led by someone with superior communication skills and a keen ability to reach across the organization, often influencing without authority.

  • Interfacing with product owners daily to address operational matters and to understand their business requirements.

  • Lead the development for an Enterprise platform (API Gateway, Azure Cloud, Oracle and Azure SQL databases) technical roadmap, resource allocation, and execution timelines.

  • Familiar with legacy Java programming is a major plus

  • Familiar with modern Microsoft .NET technology stack (in Azure), and various relational database setups

  • Able to work with & manage vendors as outsourcing partners, including to monitor their performance, delivery timeline and stay within budget

  • Developing standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent.

  • Preparing and optimizing departmental budgets

  • Recommending technological developments and improvements in efficiency

  • Developing the team to ensure quality end products.

  • Present technology roadmap, progress and compelling presentations to executives and investors

  • Actively lead the lift of critical assets to the cloud

  • Agile champion.

  • Work with internal, external stakeholders to develop product requirements and technology roadmaps.

  • Administrative duties include preparing and monitoring a large IT budget, establishing effective departmental statistics for controlling costs, and effectively managing staff (employee selection, development, and evaluation). The incumbent will take an active role in working with other departments in planning and designing their budgets and resources to accommodate proposed systems. Must demonstrate the ability to data mine various IT infrastructure databases for the benefit of C-suite personnel and the corporation.

  • Must demonstrate familiarity with the following information systems: Windows Server, Windows 7 workstation, MUMPS, Intersystem cache, UNIX; RESTful, and HL7 interface languages/protocols, and must possess the ability to modify those interfaces or at least work closely with vendors.

  • Must exhibit a working knowledge of outpatient Laboratory Information System (LIS) (Antrim preferred), Lab/Pathology systems, Inventory Systems, Reporting, Salesforce and major brand of Financial systems.

  • Must have a deep understanding of data architecture, data acquisition, data integration, and data mining, with the ability to challenge technical subject matter experts to think creatively.

  • May be asked to participate in enterprise initiatives, special projects and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related discipline a plus.

  • 5+ years of experience designing, engineering, and leading end-to-end product development

  • 7+ years of experience as a software engineer in organizations with strong software engineering processes, ideally building solutions for the Cloud

  • 7+ years of experience leading highly motivated engineering teams in mature organizations

  • Track record of successful product development and deployment using modern software engineering, DevOps, Agile, SCRUM and sprint practices, Azure or AWS, and Docker or Kubernetes

  • Track record of being able to attract and retain successful software engineering team members

  • Experience in using and leading teams that utilize one or more of C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, C/C++, or .NET

  • Experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure and/or distributed systems integrating third party protocol libraries and APIs

  • Familiar with building large scale, Azure and hybrid (cloud & on-premise) based applications, preferably with .NET and modern JS frameworks (ex. ReactJS, NodeJS).

  • Hands-on knowledge with various integration and application development patterns, including SOA, RESTful, SOAP, Micro services, Dockers and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Expert knowledge with various database technologies including OLTP, OLAP, modern analytic frameworks and reporting.

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, programmable logic controls, and algorithms

  • Strong understanding of distributed, high speed and reliable messaging systems: WCF, Rabbit, MQTT, or Pub/Sub technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of scalable cloud and on-premises time series databases (e.g. OSI PI, Timescale DB, Data Lakes)

  • Must be knowledgeable about industry trends, Cyber-Security best practices, and change management.

  • Prior clinical diagnostics experience or healthcare strongly desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 15 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing ability to effectively communicate via the telephone and in person.

  • Ability to communicate verbally on the telephone and in person.

  • Fluency in the English language

  • Extended hours and travel may be needed.

  • Will be required to travel to all AUI Care Center locations as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will primarily work in a typical office environment including use of cubicles, computers, and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, database management, email, and the Internet. The employee is frequently required to use a calculator, fax, copy machine, and phone system.

The Target Pay Range for this position is $164,000 - $200,000 annually. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
