Description/Job Summary

The Director of Practice Solutions is a strategic role that requires a comprehensive understanding of our clients' and practice groups' business objectives and assumes a pivotal role in shaping the strategic vision for practice solutions across the firms practices.

Responsibilities/Duties

Strategy and Leadership

  • Engage with practice group leaders, KM Lawyers, Practice Management Directors, and other key stakeholders to grasp their needs and identify opportunities to apply emerging technologies and process enhancements to improve client experience

  • Offer thought leadership and counsel to practice group leaders on trends in technology, business practices, and other pivotal factors that influence the delivery of legal services

  • Collaborate with firm and practice leadership, KM, IT, and other stakeholders to articulate the vision and define the plan for practice solutions used by attorneys and clients

  • Engage in ongoing professional development through education, research, networking, and participation in professional and industry organizations to master legal technology innovation trends and best practices that can elevate legal service delivery

Practice Technology Solutions and Services

  • Oversee the Firm's practice solutions support for both transactional and litigation matters and manage the team responsible for defining, growing, and supporting those solutions

  • Lead business analysis and requirements-gathering sessions with attorneys and business support stakeholders to understand, document, and prioritize user needs related to legal technologies and practice solutions

  • Translate complex business objectives into features and user stories to ensure the successful delivery of practice solutions

  • Collaborate with attorneys, KM, IT, and other business support functions to orchestrate pilot programs, proof of concept initiatives, comparative software evaluations, product testing of products and services, and the deployment of chosen tools

  • In partnership with the Data Analytics, KM, and IT teams, contribute to the firm's strategies and pilot projects for harnessing artificial intelligence tools

  • Ensure alignment of product initiatives with the broader Knowledge project portfolio

  • Cultivate and maintain vendor relationships to stay informed about the latest technology tools and services, and work with vendors to drive product improvements that support the Firm's practice technology objectives

Change Management and Adoption

  • Develop and oversee strategies for the adoption, change management, and training related to the portfolio of practice technology solutions and services

  • Communicate the advantages of practice technology solutions and services effectively, emphasizing their positive impact on the Firm and its clients

  • Monitor adoption and regularly assess the impact of practice technology solutions and services on business performance and modify strategies accordingly

Team Management

  • Lead the Practice Solutions team globally, ensuring uniformity in recruitment, career development, training, and the services provided by the group

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to Practice Solutions team members, guiding them in the management and administration of the assigned technology portfolio, and conduct semi-annual and annual performance evaluations

  • Oversee the operational budget for the Practice Solutions function, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget

  • Undertake additional projects as directed by the Chief Knowledge & Innovation Officer

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams comprising designers, technologists, business analysts, and legal practitioners

  • A proactive problem-solver with the ability to address both technical issues and collaborative situations involving attorneys and non-legal staff/departments

  • A strategic thinker with a proven track record of working with cross-functional teams to create and implement intelligent solutions

  • A thorough understanding of emerging technologies and their impact on service delivery

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of distilling and conveying complex information in a clear, concise manner

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, adept at managing multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and priorities

  • A consultative approach and a strong customer service orientation, able to engage with Firm and practice group leadership, attorneys, clients, and other internal and external stakeholders effectively

Required Experience

  • At least five years in a technology leadership role and ten years in the legal field

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is required

Preferred Education

  • JD or MBA is preferred

Details

Salary Information

NY only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $300k to $350k at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
