Meta Director, Data Engineering - Messenger in New York, New York

Summary:

Messenger is building a private, safe, and universal way for people to connect and be closer together.We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering (DE) Director to lead our Messenger DE organization, supporting messaging experiences across both the Facebook and Instagram networks and the Messenger App. As the DE leader for Messenger, you will be driving our data and analytics foundation's future, setting a vision that enables us to build private communication experiences within many products at Meta. This includes enabling our rollout of end-to-end encryption, designing and implementing privacy preserving measurement techniques, and managing an ecosystem of trusted data artifacts that is used to make decisions every day. In this role, you will work closely with leads across Data Science, Product Management, Software Engineering, and User Research to identify and build products that impact the everyday experience of billions of people. You’ll also partner with teams all across Meta as you build data solutions that are depended on by many different organizations. Required Skills:

Director, Data Engineering - Messenger Responsibilities:

  1. Formulate and implement the vision for a trusted data analytics platform supporting product development across the Facebook and Instagram networks.

  2. Manage and grow a high performing data engineering team.

  3. Establish the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in data fidelity, data privacy, system reliability, and enabling rapid experimentation and data-informed decisions.

  4. Partner with cross-functional teams of Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Product Managers, Researchers, and other partner groups to understand their data needs and deliver on them.

  5. Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production.

  6. Define and manage SLA's for all data sets and processes running in production.

  7. Drive data quality across the product vertical and related business areas.

  8. Manage the delivery of high-impact dashboards, data sets, and data visualizations.

  9. Contribute to improving data engineering competency across Meta.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 12+ years of experience in Analytics, BI, or Data Warehousing.

  2. Experience scaling and managing 50+ person teams and managing senior managers.

  3. Experience working collaboratively with Engineering, Product Management, and/or Data Science.

  4. Experience initiating and driving large scale strategic initiatives.

  5. Experience managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients.

  6. Experience implementing data governance plans.

  7. Experience in SQL or similar languages.

  8. Development experience in at least one object-oriented language (Python, Java, C, C++ etc.).

  2. Experience implementing privacy aware data foundations and solutions.

  3. Experience in a consumer web or mobile company.

Public Compensation:

$314,000/year to $361,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
