Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $103,765-$119,330.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community.

The ACS Office of Information Technology Infrastructure and Support Group provides, manages, and supports the Agency’s technology infrastructure, software, and services. Infrastructure and Support comprises the Service Desk, IT Technical Support, Infrastructure, Production Support, and Telecom Management.

The Production Support unit is comprised of three operational areas: Production Administration, Systems Administration, and Database Administration. Under supervision, with latitude for independent action and the exercise of independent judgment, the Database Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining all Microsoft SQL Servers database environments.

The candidate specific duties will include:

  • Plan, design, install, configure, secure, maintain, and support all versions of Microsoft SQL Database Servers on Windows OS environment.

  • Analyze, monitor the resource utilization, and tune the performance of the SQL and associated components, monitor thread usage, CPU and memory usage.

  • Analyze the log files, thread dumps, exception stack traces.

  • Implement and maintain security access (Users, logins, schemas).

  • Provision and de-provision user accounts and access privileges and perform periodic validation.

  • Design and implement databases in accordance with user requirements and views.

  • Develop, validate, and implement an overall strategy to patch server environments including security updates on a regular schedule.

  • Ensure that all changes to the environment adheres to established Change Management policies and procedures.

  • Perform regular SQL Server backup and restore/recover when needed.

  • Perform periodic disaster recovery test for the database, application server environments and maintain disaster recovery documentation and procedures in support of these systems.

  • Collaborate with application developers, database and system administrators for configuration and integration of database and application components.

  • Evaluate new systems and applications requirements for resource planning.

  • Setup and monitor scheduled batch jobs.

  • Setup and monitor system alerts to provide 24x7 support and high availability.

  • Liaise with Microsoft, and other vendors to troubleshoot technical issues.

  • Follow communication protocol for system failures, outages and file incident reports.

  • Respond to Service Desk tickets for technical support ensuring timely follow up and resolution.

  • Prepare system configurations and management support documentation and provide training and knowledge transfer to other team members as needed.

  • Create and maintain infrastructure Architecture diagrams.

Note, candidate may be required to work after hours and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Professional/Vendor Certification(s) in database administration that is required for the position to be filled. In addition, you must have one of the following:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and two years of satisfactory fulltime (not classroom based) experience in database administration. Experience must include database design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management;

  2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience (IT) of which at least two years must have been database administration experience as described in "1" above; OR

  3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Undergraduate education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from

an accredited college or university is equivalent to 6 months of information technology experience, but may not be substituted for the required database administration experience. A masters degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of database administration experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) database administration experience as described in "1" above.
