Summary of Position:
The Corporate Counsel will have primary responsibility for employment law-related matters. The Corporate Counsel will also handle contracts with customers (which are mainly state and local government entities and educational institutions) and vendors. As a member of a small legal department, the Corporate Counsel will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other matters depending on experience and interest.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide guidance on day-to-day employment-related matters
- Draft and revise employee handbooks, policies, and agreements
- Provide guidance on and manage outside counsel for employee disputes
- Review and respond to any changes in employment-related laws
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with customers
- Review and assist in preparing responses to RFPs
- Review and negotiate vendor contracts
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school; admission to a state bar.
- 3 or more years of legal experience.
- Experience in employment law.
- Experience in commercial contracts or government contracts or interest in learning these areas of the law.
- Prior law firm experience.
- Strong drafting, critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in privacy, intellectual property, advertising, and international laws, prior in-house experience, and familiarity with the education services industry or retail businesses preferred.
Salary: $109, 000 to $150, 000 per year, based on a 40 hour work week and your geographic zone.
