Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Attorney Recruiting and Development Assistant in the Attorney Recruiting and Development department reporting to the Senior Attorney Recruiting and Development Manager.

The role will reside in the New York office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for providing day-to-day administrative support and assistance to the attorney recruiting department. The Attorney Recruiting & Development Assistant will support the Attorney Recruiting and Development Manager and the Attorney Recruiting & Development Coordinator in regard to all aspects of the New York office’s attorney recruiting and development functions, including Summer Associate hiring, the Summer Associate program, lateral attorney hiring, and the professional development for associates and counsel. The Attorney Recruiting & Development Assistant is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Attorney Recruiting & Development Assistant must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Support the planning and execution of the New York summer associate program, including preparing for and attending daytime and evening events and training programs.

  • Assist with the summer associate evaluation process and respond to summer associate and attorney questions.

  • Support law student recruitment program including corresponding with applicants and attorneys and participating in office Hiring Committee meetings.

  • Assist with law school outreach efforts including generating event invitations, preparing materials, and attending on campus events as needed.

  • Assist with lateral recruiting efforts, including corresponding with prospective employees and search firms, collecting evaluations from attorneys, and drafting offer letters.

  • Enter and maintain applicant data in recruiting database.

  • File resumes, letters and other recruiting materials as needed, and create and maintain departmental files.

  • Process check requests and expense reports for the department.

  • Assist with preparation of materials and tracking attendance for attorney development programs and events as needed.

  • Assist with recruiting, professional development/training, summer associate, diversity, and women’s initiative events as needed.

  • Train temporary interns on recruiting database as needed.

  • Additional tasks and projects as needed.

    Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and attorneys

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to use initiative and judgment to accomplish results

  • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities

  • Familiarity with database applications (recruiting databases a plus)

  • Ability to work overtime (including evening events) as necessary
